Hostile aliens and claustrophobia rule the day in Dead Space, a survival horror game in the vein of the classic film Alien. Dead Space takes place in the distant future when Earth's lust for raw materials has extended deep into the galaxy, and giant ships roam the cosmos mining planets for resources. Gamers climb into the spacesuit of systems engineer Isaac Clarke, sent with a team of investigators to the massive USG Ishimura to determine why communications have gone dead. Once aboard, Clarke discovers that the more than 1,000 crewmembers, including his love interest Nicole, all seem to be missing, dead, or transformed into hideous alien mutants. To make matters worse, Clarke's transport ship is destroyed, his fellow investigators are slaughtered, and he is forced to scramble through the Ishimura's labyrinthine corridors weaponless and alone. The game's action takes place from a third-person perspective, and the narrative is revealed in classic survival horror fashion through messages scrawled in blood, the dying utterances of mortally wounded crewmembers, and any discarded logs or journals players may stumble upon. Gamers can loot corpses for credits which can then be used in the ship's many automated vending machines to purchase weapons, upgrade Clarke's space suit, and gain access to restricted areas. Much of the ship's interior has been damaged and thus lacks oxygen or gravity, creating a number of environmental puzzles, and making choices regarding upgrades exceedingly important -- powerful weapons offer little solace to a player devoid of oxygen. However, choosing the correct weaponry is also crucial, because the creatures that dwell within the Ishimura are terrifyingly powerful, and unlike most games, the action in Dead Space doesn't pause while players check their journal, change weapons, or reload.

Awesome Underrated Game
Dead Space is one of those games that just comes out of nowhere and really amazes you. The game has great graphics, storyline and controls. The story is very reminiscent to the movie Event Horizon. The guns are very original and fun to mess around with, with it adding to the game a bit of RPG type elements of upgrading armor and weaponry. Theres lot of action and moments that make you jump in the game. At first I was sort of hesitant on buying it due to not hearing much about it before hand, but I definately don't regret it. There's not really much I can complain about in the game. It's sort of a mix between Resident Evil 4 and Silent Hill. The developers really did a great job in trying something new out mixing and combining elements to create a great game. If your looking for an ... Dead Space Review for PS3 and 360 100% Must Buy! Best Survival Horror Game. Graphics- 10/10 Stunning graphics, If you don't like the game-play then buy it just for the visuals! Cut-scenes can compete,if not beat final fantasy. Smooth transitions in movement give the graphics an edge that makes the whole movement look like a cut-scene. I was honestly amazed. It is hard to find a starting spot for this review. You are Isaac Clarke, an engineer dispatched to the suddenly silent USG Ishimura, a space vessel specializing in massive-scale resource mining. When you arrive you find that everyone is dead and the crew isn't just dead, they are mutilated and dismembered. Enough of the story, now it's time for gameplay. This game will make you jump out of your seat, it is that spooky at times. The gameplay and weapons are really great. If you are a fan of survival horror games then you need to pick this game up. It is by far one of the top 3 most scary games I have ever played and I have played a lot of them. The sounds and background noises in this game will make your skin crawl, you never know when the next Necromorph will attack you and from what ... It is hard to find a starting spot for this review. Graphics: Breathtaking 9/10 The graphics are make you look twice – you feel as if you are on the ship with Isaac, and even in deep space. Though the levels look similar, you will see the immediate beauty of this game. It is a difficult thing to be consistent, yet differentiate enough to create an entire ship. Sound: Amazing – 9.5/10 The sounds, music, effects, and voices take you immediately into the game. Surround sound is a must so you can hear the uttering, chanting, and footsteps of the habitants of this game. A lot of time, and thought, went into putting in effective music, parts with no music, and the fell of being utterly alone. The best, yet simplistic feeling is when you go into space for the first time, and all you hear is your own breath and heartbeat. Gameplay: Spectacular ... Gameplay: Spectacular – 9/10 Smooth animations, large – but intuitive levels, smart enemies and A.I., different possibilities for battles and puzzles – without giving anything away, this game is different, and in a good way. Fans of Bioshock and Resident Evil 4 will feel at home with this. The way you kill enemies is really unique, and fun. Replay Value – Good 7/10 Even without multiplayer, this game has replay value with the Impossible Difficulty, and they mean that. The only issues I have with the replay is that you will know where the “jump out points” are and will be expecting what will happen. Overall – Perfect 9/10 I am a fan of Survival Horror and the entire genre. When I play this game, I have to say that this isn’t so much survival horror on the Easy to Hard difficulty settings, being that there is plenty of ammo, stores, and save points, but survival Action. Think of this as a sci-fi movie, and that it is more like Aliens as opposed to Alien. The details and ideas that went in this game prove that risks are still being taken in game development, and they pay off. Though I say this is a “Survival Action” game, it is so much more. It feels as if it is a “best of” game – meaning that they take the best parts of many games such as Bioshock, Resident Evil 4, Prey, and other games that may fall into such a category. The use of in game story telling, and use of a item menu that is in game and in action, gives a whole new approach to playing the game. The game is not perfect, but close to. The map is annoying to use, and the use of where to go makes the game a bit easier, but for how the story is set up, it works. It is difficult for a company to release a new IP these days, and have it be successful, and I feel that Dead Space does just that. Enjoy playing this with the lights off. It creates its own genre. It has elements taken from genres such as RPG, puzzlers, action-adventures, but is not pigeonholed into this experience. Spending time with this game, it is apparent that EA games wanted to create a cinematic and different experience in a game – and make the horror genre prevalent again.
