  • A Dark Entertaining Movie

Christopher Plummer stars as Dr. Parnassus a man who was approached by the Devil and given the opportunity to gain Immortality and accepted the challenge. Now, after thousands of years, the Dr. is faced with another challenge that involves his daughter. Enter a stranger (Heath Ledger) who could save the Dr.s Daughter. This movie is very dark, it is not for everyone and definitely not for children. The characters are portrayed in a way that makes some seem very evil and some seem very good, yet being a dark movie all the characters are portrayed in a way that make me think of my nightmares when I was growing up. It is a very good movie but I can see how some would not care for it. If you enjoyed Brazil then you would most likely like this movie, if you did not enjoy Brazil then you ...

  • Pass on Parnassus!

Take only the worst aspects of the movies The Adventures of Baron Munchausen crossed with Naked Lunch and Brazil, and you have The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus! At times I can enjoy the off-normal aspects that these movies offer, however Doctor P was so poorly put together, that the storyline became a hodge-podge of scenes, barely holding my attention as I was lost in trying to figure out what was happening and why! And I KNOW THE STORY! If only the movie could have grounded itself even remotely, just enough to bother to convey the storyline to the audience, would have made it watchable and perhaps enjoyable. But it didn't, and so in my mind, it was ultimately a waste of time and money. And this opinion is from someone who likes movies like Brazil and Baron from time to time. ...

  • Love this movie

Loved this movie in high school and was thinking about it the other day so I ordered it. It's awesome, I've always loved the main actors in all their rolls but loved the combination in this movie. It's like alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton version) meets the new remake of OZ, but better!!

  • In My Opinion!!

I thought I would enjoy the movie but after watching several minutes, I was really turned off by it. The movie seemed caotic to say the least. I would not recomed this movie to others.

  • Great Fantasy

I am a fan of Terry Gilliam, and I love this recent movie which he wrote and directed. The story interweaves fantasy and reality in an adaptation of the Dr. Faustus tale in which the protagonist (Dr. Parnassus, played by Christopher Plummer) tries to outwit the devil (Mr. Nick). Initially, the fantasy world is entered through a mirror on the stage of a traveling theater show. As the story progresses, however, the dividing line between fantastic and the mundane becomes more and more blurred. The manner in which the character (Tony) played by Keith Ledger (who died during the filming) is replaced in several scenes by both Johnny Depp and Jude Law adds a perfect dreamlike twist to the fantasy scenes. This Blue Ray video is a perfect addition to my collection of movies.
