    "I Got Shoes," by Sweet Honey in the Rock

    There are a number of neat songs here meant to appeal to children, though I haven't tested them on any children yet. Probably my favorite for pure whimsical charm is "Look! Look! The Sun Woke Up!" It is light, beautiful, childlike, and it features Sweet Honey's always amazing way of combining voices to sound like a conversation in which many speakers are understandable at once. The counting in Swahili and other languages is nice for children, though from an adult standpoint, I would have preferred pure Swahili and no spoken intros so the counting wouldn't interfere with the terrific background music. All the songs -- and there is a tremendous variety of styles and moods -- are worth while, some more so than others. "Down the Road I Be Goin'" shows a fine classical blues style, with ...

    I Got Shoes - Sweet Honey In The Rock (CD 1994)

    You can't go wrong with any music by Sweet Honey in The Rock. I bought this cd for my preschool class. There's counting in other languages and a very positive motivational "rap". My 7 year old listened while I previewed the cd and asked me to play certain songs again. I am well pleased with this purchase. This was my 3rd cd from the group.
