About this product

Product Information

James Brolin stars as Sheriff Wade Parent, a man who must stop a large, black 2-door sedan from terrorizing a small New Mexican town. No one knows the car's origin, who is driving it, or how to stop it. After it kills three people, the Sheriff must find a way to stop this seemingly indestructible machine. Who is behind the wheel? Could it be...Satan? That may be the case given that late Church of Satan leader Anton LaVey was given a 'Technical Advisor' credit on the film! Though it was greeted by a chorus of jeers when it surfaced in 1977, THE CAR is an oddly gripping and altogether unconventional horror film. From the director of A MAN CALLED HORSE and a script co-written by Michael Butler, writer of PALE RIDER.

    Great movie Action Packed

I was fortunate to see this when it was released to the theaters in 1977 you have to see this on the big screen it is incredible. There are some movies that was made for the theater this is one of them. But the DVD that was released to the public is very good the picture is sharp and clear and the sound is great.

  • THE CAR

This is a great way to spend an evening. I love this movie and can't say enough good about it. Sure, it's on the low-budget side but who cares? I became a fan seeing it at the drive-in and enjoy watching it. I would love to have the rights to be able to remake this picture. The fun I'd have with it!! An easy FIVE STARS.

  • A different kind of horror movie

Everyone in my family who watched this movie enjoyed it, but we wondered why there was no explanation of where the car came from or why it showed up in the town where the story took place. It had a few unexpected twists in it, also. I thought this movie may have been from a Stephen King story, as it seemed like something he would have thought of, but it wasn't.

The Car is a great fun movie to watch. The car itself is actually a 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark III modified by George Barris. The same guy that made the T.V. show Bat-mobile out of, you guessed it, a Lincoln Continental. The engine in The Car was 460 cubic inches and the distinctive horn was a Grover 1700-1748 air horn. Listen closely and you will hear the horn blow a - Di Dah Dah Dit - which is Morse code for "X". I've purchased from GRUV before. Always quick delivery and quality products.

  • What evil force drives THE CAR!! (Insert infamous horn)

The Car is one of those film's that people would call a guilty pleasure, me, it reminds me from when I was a kid and loved HBO for showing a PG horror film during the day (a day when PG had more testicular fortitude than it does today). A car that came from who knows where that killed people and has a horn that anyone who ever saw the film (whether they liked it or not)can still hear it in their head after all these years (would love to use it as a text alert sound, LOL). The film, that in my opinion, was the inspiration for Stephen Kings Christine. Both about demonic cars that kill, whereas Christine posses someone and in The Car it is driven by the Devil or Demon. Don't look for philosophical meaning, don't look for high end acting, look for the film it is, drive-in material with the ...
