The bolo tie is bright and shiny certainly not expensive. I thought what I expected was more than what it turned out to be. I paid $22.00 and should not have paid more than $10 to $15. The strands were faux leather, I think, maybe plastic. I was going to send it back but kept it. Next time I 'll buy a more expensive one, sterling silver and real turquoise.
