Hidden behind her black floor-length veil, she is a prisoner, jailed by her father, her husband, her sons, and her country.Sultana is a member of the Saudi royal family, closely related to the king. For the sake of her daughters, she has decided to take the risk of speaking out about the life of women in her country, regardless of their rank. She must hide her identity for fear that the religous leaders in her country would call for her death to punish her honesty. Only a woman in her position could possibly hope to escape from being revealed and punished, despite her cloak and anonymity.Sultana tells of her own life, from her turbulent childhood to her arranged marriage--a happy one until her husband decided to displace her by taking a second wife--and of the lives of her sisters, her friends and her servants. Before you begin, clear your schedule, because you won't want to put this book down until you're finished. In biographical style, follow one woman's painful, true story through her life.     exciting, un-put-down-able read

    Although this book describes a tiny sliver of the elite in Saudi Arabia, it is fascinating. One must know on reading such things, however, that not every country in the Middle East is the same, and Saudi Arabia's values, law, and sexist orientation is the worst of all those countries combined. At present, unfortunately, fanatics are demanding strict interpretation of the Koran, as well as the strictest practices of devotion, and the fallout rains upon women, who generally become even more repressed when people are trying to prove a point. A riveting read, the first in the trilogy of the "Princess" stories. Second book is "Princess Sultana's Daughters," and the third one is "Princess Sultana's Circle." Also very interesting if looking for something about Muslim women is "A Border Passage ...

    One of the most compelling stories of truth.

    Couldn't put this book down. It's amazing and so riveting. WOW!!! This book is one of those you don't want to stop reading for fear it will go away. It's eye opening if you've never looked at this culture. A story of a shocking culture, in a world that screams human rights. This account is true and factual. It is a MUST read. I wish it was required reading for all.

    Princess

    Excellent book. This is a true story about a Saudi Arabian princess. This is the first book in a 3 book series. I recommend reading all three in order. Very informative about how women live in Saudi Arabia. They have no control over anything in their lives. They are not allowed to go anywhere without a father, brother, or husband. They can't drive. They can't have any part of their body showing. Not even their eyes.
