Not delivered on the 18th. Nt the fault of publisher. Totally the fault of USPS. Amazingly, Blackstone offered to, and indeed did, reprint this audio book. I got it today from them--- 4/25/24. Thank you, Blackstone. I will be a customer for life!

John Kennedy Toole’s Pulitzer Prize-winning, quintessentially American, madcap satire introduces readers to one of literature’s most memorable anti-heroes. Ignatius J. Reilly is a grossly overweight, outspoken, germ-phobic slob of a hypochondriac, who is obsessed with his own self-importance. At 30, he is unemployed and rarely leaves his home, but he still sees himself as an authority on everything that’s wrong with his country -- which is just about everything. He lives in New Orleans with his long-suffering but devoted mother, who suddenly determines that she has indulged him long enough; their money has run out, and Ignatius must find his first job. Thus begins a non-stop series of hilarious episodes as Ignatius, at once over- and under-qualified for entry-level positions, gets himself ...

  • An audience of Dunces (A Confederacy of Dunces)

I'm sure I'l be ridiculed for disliking a pulitzer prize winner, but I have to believe that A Confederacy of Dunces won the emotional vote because its author committed suicide. Again, opening myself for crtitcizm, I listen to many audio books, and this is by far the most abhorrable abomination (to use a Ulyssean phrase)to grace my CD player. I could not even make it past disk 5. I purchased it only because I misplaced one of the library disks. I count it as the heftiest late fee I have ever been obligated to pay. Not returning this literary aversion would have been the finest act of philanthropy I could have performed, but, alas, I followed the money. I feel cheated to have lost the investment in time to those 4.5 disks and feel more bitterly to the reader whose foreword convinced me ...

  • Funny, insightful debunking of life

A delightful romp by the genius author: Toole. Great audio rendition of the excellent novel. A joy to listen to especially in the car on a trip. Not for everyone as a minority will pan it. I think one needs a sense of humor about life by debunking the seriousness and rules of behavior to appreciate his work. A shame he died a young man before his book won the Pulitzer prize.

  • Preposterous but Funny!

The whole thing is preposterous, but it bears enough resemblance to "people you know" that it will tickle your funny-bone. The reader is superb! ("Excellent" is not a strong enough word!) I'm on disc 3 and the story just keeps getting better. This was highly recommended by a friend and I could not find it at the library, so I was lucky to find it for sale at eBay. I am enjoying listening to it.
