About this product

Product Information

A Massachusetts state investigator is called home from Knoxville, Tennessee, where he is completing a course at the National Forensic Academy. His boss, the district attorney, attractive but hard-charging, is planning to run for governor, and as a showcase she's planning to use a new crime initiative called At Risk-its motto: "Any crime, any time." In particular, she's been looking for a way to employ cutting-edge DNA technology, and she thinks she's found the perfect subject in an unsolved twenty-year-old murder-in Tennessee. If her office solves the case, it ought to make them all look pretty good, right? Her investigator is not so sure-not sure about anything to do with this woman, really-but before he can open his mouth, a shocking piece of violence intervenes, an act that shakes up not only both their lives but the lives of everyone around them. It's not a random event. Is it personal? Is it professional? Whatever it is, the implications are very, very bad indeed . . . and they're about to get much worse. Sparks fly, traps spring, twists abound-this is the master working at the top of her game. View the trailer for "Patricia Cornwell's At Risk," premiering on Lifetime on April 10, 2010.

  • Not her best - or am I spoiled

I chose average because even at her worst Cornwell is good. Cornwell a fine forensic mystery writer, actually she seems to own the field. This book is worth reading, once, but you’ll be disappointed if you are a hard core fan. I am getting tired of Benton and Scarpetta’s romance. Cornwell seems tired of her characters too. The ending in this book, and other recent entries, appears rushed as if the author was in a hurry to get away from them. All four of the leads are evolving at the same speed as a soap opera characters. The secondary characters remain compelling and very nasty. Perhaps she is afraid that readers will stop buying her books if she tries to create new leads. I will stay faithful, but only if Marino has a brain transplant and Lucy is murdered in the next novel. My favorite ...

  • The well has gone dry?

Patricia Cornwell is one of my favorite authors. Her detailed descriptions, character development and storyline twists keep the reader engrossed in the book. I think the series has run its course, and Ms. Cornwell is possibly introducing a new line of characters to expand the storyline. This was one of my least favorite of her stories I've read, but I think that is because I was expecting Kay Scarpetta to come in the story at some point. I like this new line of characters if this is the direction she is steering.

  • Disappointing

This book doesn't even really deserve one star. It's very short, disjointed and written like a bad formula paperback. I kept wondering when the "real" story was going to start, and it never did. I used to consider Patricia Cornwell a very good writer and could hardly wait for her next book to come out. Her books were interesting from page one till the end and I still re-read her first 7 or so books every few years. They were great. I keep hoping she'll find her way back to her previous style since she used to be my favorite author, but in recent years she seems to have completely lost her touch. I won't buy any more of her novels until I see stellar reviews in advance. Don't waste your time or money on this one. It's not worth reading.

  • At Risk

Patricia Conrwell writes so well that it is easy to follow her stories and remain captivated. She changed the characters in this one and the setting and it made for more curiosity as you got to know these characters rather than knowing (like with Scarpetta, Marino, and Lucy)everything already. It would make for a great new series! Good book, easy to read, and fast paced. Enjoy!

  • Patricia, Patricia, where art thou?

To say that I was disappointed in this book would be putting it mildly. Reading it was akin to having a wisdom tooth pulled with a pair of rusty pliers. Patricia, Patricia, what has happened to you! I've been a fan of yours for years, but I would rather serve a tour in Baghdad than read another book of this caliber. I just finished "Judge and Jury" by James Patterson and as always, I couldn't put it down. It use to be that way with you. Midway, I finally took "At Risk" and deep-sixed it in my waste basket. No way it would join the rest of your books on my shelf.
