Kathleen Huggins equips breastfeeding mothers with all the information they need to overcome potential difficulties and nurse their babies successfully from the first week through the toddler years, or somewhere in between. This fully updated and extensively revised edition provides new information on topics such as: - Nursing after a cesarean- How to resume breastfeeding after weaning (relactation)- Nursing a "near-term" (3-to-5 weeks premature) baby- Treating postpartum headaches and nausea- Nutritional supplements to alleviate postpartum depression- Sharing a baby with baby (co-sleeping) and the risk of SIDS- Introducing solid foods- Expressing, storing, and feeding breast milk- Reviews of breast pumps Readers will also find Huggins's indispensable problem-solving "survival guides," set off by colored bands on the pages for quick reference, as well as appendices on determining baby's milk needs in the first six weeks and the safety of various drugs during breast-feeding. Now more than ever, The Nursing Mother's Companion is the go-to guide every new mother should have at hand.

Reviews
The real strength of this book is the accessibility of the information. A new mother can easily find answers to her questions and concerns within a few minutes. Also, it seems more 'mainstream' than some of the other books on the market, yet presents information on topics such as toddler nursing or co-sleeping in a non-threatening way. --Doula Magazine This is an excellent book, particularly for first-time nursers. You know how they say the most important thing about nursing is relaxing? Well, it would be impossible to read this book and have an anxiety attack at the same time. The tone is very reassuring, the chapters well organized. The book is thorough-- and never gets on the breast-or-bust bandwagon. --Parenting [Kathleen Huggins]'s reassuring, practical suggestions make this book an excellent informational companion. --Publishers Weekly

Super impressed with this seller! They had the best price by far for this book! Both the cost of the book and the shipping fee was far better than average! The book came exactly as described, it was well packaged and quite a bit earlier than expected! The seller was polite and replied quickly to my messages. I’ll definitely make another purchase soon! WONDERFUL book! Better than described, in just like new condition [not just good]. Packaged very carefully, shipped very securely. Great seller, would buy from again in a heartbeat! No communication occurred, but I imagine it would have been as good as the rest of their customer service. Very happy with purchase, thank you very much!

  • Excellent resource for new moms!!!

I love the way this book explains everything clearly about breastfeeding. It starts with the basics in the first weeks to months of having a newborn and gives great information for continuing to nurse through the later months and returning to work. This book explains problem solving for colicky babies, nightwaking, nipple confusion, and more. The book is organized so the reader can easily find their topic of interest. I would recommend this book to new moms or even as a refresher for those who haven't breastfeed in a while. I know that I will keep this book handy. It has given me the confidence to continue nursing after I return to work.

  • The Nursing Mother's Companion

I love this book. It is a great reference and guide for anyone considering or in the midst of breatfeeding. It is broken into sections according to the baby's age for quick retrieval of information with helpful review guides at the end of each chapter. To read it from cover to cover, it felt quite repetative, but knowing that I will not miss anything by going to the chapter designated by my baby's age is more than reassuring. This would be a great resource for any mother considering breastfeeding, whether they plan to do it for 3 weeks or 3 years. I really learned a lot, even though I didn't read it until after I had nursed both of my babies for 1+ years each.

  • The Nursing Mother's Companion, nuff said

I nursed both of my children each for two year I used this book probably once a month each time. Full of accuate information about nursing, but not pushy about it, doesn't poo poo the use of formula like some books. Very convenient drug index that lets you know the affects on breast milk of drugs from cold meds to crack. Also has phone numbers where you can get information if you can't find it in the book. If you or anyone you know is nursing, get this book!

  • Best book I read on brestfeeding!

The Nursing Mother's Companion has great chapters to read before the baby is born and is divided into sections based on your baby's age. It is a wonderful trouble shooting guide for various difficulties and problems and includes step-by-step instructions for resolving them. I have other books on nursing, but this is the one I turn to first because it has very basic and practical advice and information. Easy to read when you are short on sleep with a newborn! I am buying it for my friend who is expecting because it was such a help to me.

  • The Nursing Mother's Companion

I bought this book to comfort my daughter after she had her first baby. She was not entirely comfortable with the idea of nursing. Now, the baby is 8 weeks old and mom and son are doing well...the baby is a happy spitter so the book is a great support and guide. Grandma gives the book an A+++. Healthy baby... a delight to see. Happy Mom less stress. Beaming Dad. Result----one excellent book.
