About this product

Product Information

On October 25, 2010, Staff Sergeant Salvatore Giunta became the first living person since the Vietnam War to receive the United States' highest military decoration, and both he and Sergeant Leroy Petry (the second inductee) rightly take their place in the pages of this third edition of "Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty." The book includes 144 contemporary portraits of recipients by award-winning photographer Nick Del Calzo and profiles by National Book Award nominee Peter Collier. First published on Veterans Day 2003, this "New York Times" bestseller has now been updated and augmented to include new essays plus: - Letters from all living presidents - A foreword by Brian Williams - Profiles of Sergeant Giunta and Sergeant Petry There are also essays by Tom Brokaw, Senator John McCain, and Victor Davis Hanson, and a multimedia DVD with historic footage and recipients' first-person reflections. The Medal of Honor recipients in the book fought in conflicts from World War II to Afghanistan, serving in every branch of the armed services.

  • U.S. Medal of Honor - living award holders

Although I have encountered a few similiar style books covering German Knight's Cross holders, this is the first book that I've encountered concerning our own U.S. heroic wartime actions. The Medal of Honor (MoH)book spans living medal recipients with a recent picture and a service picture. These MoH veterans recall the action that would qualify them to win the award. By their own accounts, a majority of them felt that they were just doing their job and that most seemed surprised that they either lived through the event or that their event was special enough to earn our nation's highest honor. The veterans presented include warriors from World War II, Korea, and the Vietnam conflict. I only know of the hardback version which is of good quality. My only negative ...

  • Medal Of Honor book

My son is a young Marine, 3 yrs now on a 6 year commitment, he loved this book that we gave him as a christmas present. My son loves to read anything that pertains to the United States Military.

  • Excellent & inspiring

This book is so inspiring- makes one remember that it's the people of America that make her GREAT. I bought the book so that i would understand the sacrifices made for all of us, the scope of the cost- i have not been dissapointed- fantastic read that i highly recommend to all.
