    Boss BR-600 Digital Recording Console

This recorder is my favorite learning tool for music. I record the songs I am learning, and then use the A-B repeat function to play the difficult phrases over and over until I get them figured out, or in the case of our originals, until I get my leads dialed in. The Phrase Trainer feature allows me to cut the speed of the music in half without changing the pitch, so I can learn the phrases at a slower speed in the original key. The BR-600 is very easy to learn, and easy to use. My band records every practice session, using just the internal microphones, and the results are surprisingly listenable. I just use one track for these sessions, which gives me hours of recording time on a 1GB card. This little featherweight will operate on batteries with around six hours of recording time ...

  • This is one of the best compact systems for the money.

I needed a mobile 8 track to capture ideas on the fly. Prior to this, I had been working with a stand alone hard disk recorder in my studio. That studio has now been condensed to a carry on suitcase and I missed not being able to just push record and go. Plus, recording to a laptop wasn't working either. The Boss-600 has been able to replace my old need of a stand alone and still fits in the carry on. I can upload to a laptop later for further editing. The 600 is the older model, but reviewers were saying it still had better capabilities than the 2010 model, so I trusted my gut. An older model means less money out of my pocket, as well. The 1gig compact flash memory cards were a concern of mine, but I tried a cheap generic card that works great. Get a generic card before you ...

  • Good machine in it's day

This unit is small. self-contained, and a very useful tool for beginners who want to learn how to record in multi-track environments. The manual is thorough, and I would suggest a read prior to working with the until if you are new to recording. The COSM features are nice additions for effects, though I prefer to use outboard effects. This is an older device which has been superceded by better, newer technology, but serves as a good entry point. I wish they had made the recording media SD instead of CF cards. It will not accept anything over 1GB and should be a 48x or smaller speed. Overall a good entry-level 4 track recorder.

  • BR-600 makin' life rock

I was a little hesitant in getting this dgital recorder (technology scares me). I tried a computer program interface and really had a tough time with it. I'm glad to say that figuring this thing out isn't that bad. Although I wanted to start recording the very second I got it, I was patient. After about an hour of familiarizing myself with the unit and the the instruction book, I was ready to start playing with it.It didn't take too long before I had my first song down(2 guitar tracks, bass, drum machine). It was a little rough, but that was mostly my playing and getting used to actually recording myself. Overall this is an easy piece of gear to work with. The drum machine sounds good. The effects are usefull. It makes playing guitar fun as it fills out the sound of a complete song instead of ...

  • Boss Audio Systems BR-600 Portable Digital Recorder

For a music hobbyist like myself this is a very handy unit to have. I use it as sketch pad for musical ideas, and once you acquaint yourself with the basic operation recordings can be made quickly, edited and mastered. Feature rich in effects for guitar, microphone and line input. Drum machine also has many stock patterns and beats that can be easily combined with with your work. Onboard microphones are quite good, and work well for acoustic instruments. The unit is fussy about CF cards, so do your research and find one that are compatible with this. Seek out the older CF type 1 cards. Maximum size allow for CF card is 1 gigibyte, which I would have prefered to be larger, but this allows for several hours recording time in the highest quality mode. I do recommend finding a external power ...
