The ONLY decent interpretation of Thurber even if they took some license

Danny Kaye was brilliant at what he did. I have always loved Thurber's story. I have also thought his interpretation of this character was much more real. In 1998 when I heard Mike Myers was going to do a remake, I was very excited. Myers does not have the greatest reputation for working well with others, but I felt he could do justice to the character. I waited several years and read Myers went through a particularly nasty divorce. The next thing I knew he had dropped the option on the film and Ben Stiller had taken over. After a lengthy two year wait I saw what Stiller and his monumental ego did to the story. The film was terrible, the music was terrible and I knew Thurber, Danny Kaye and Sylvia Fine (Kaye's wife and brilliant lyricist) were turning over in their graves. This is one ...

    Didn't age well

I loved the new version with Ben Stiller, but i find the original movie didn't age well. The DVD itself is neat, great quality, amazingly well preserved motion picture. Of course Danny Kaye is brilliant, but the situations from 1947 are hard to relate to. It made me realize what a great job Ben Stiller did when modernizing that concept.

  • Wild and Crazy Guy

We all do a little day dreaming, but Danny Kaye day dreams musicals. It showcases all of his talents with comedy, singing, dancing and acting. A one of a kind irreplaceable entertainer. To think Ben Stiller could fill his shoes with a remake and rediculous special effects. That just made this original seem that much better. Thank you Samuel Goldwyn Studios!

  • One Of Kaye's Best

The movie has been reviewed ad nauseum......so I won't belabor the issue. It's a good movie and well worth viewing if you like and appreciate Danny Kaye, as I do!! Great supporting cast and loaded with zany nonsense from yesteryear. (no "F" words, etc) This is the best version available in a crowded field of competitors...get the HBO version....
