Awesome band, awesome CD
I immediately fell in love with the sound of this band, especially the vocals by Lacey. Then I read the lyrics (on the 'net) and realized the message was distinctly Christian, although not "preachy". I then researched the band and read about Lacey's childhood and life and what led to her writing those words. It was/is so inspiring. Now when I listen to the songs they mean even more to me, and I respect these artists even more. I think there are countless people, especially young females who can relate to Lacey's life story, who could find a lot of healing in the artistry of this band. (Actually, as Lacey would no doubt agree, the healing would ultimately come from God, using this band as a vessel to carry His love.) As for the band's sound, I love that it is sometimes-hard, ... As for Lacey's vocals, I've never heard a voice that could one moment sound almost like a little girl and another moment be screaming like a banshee (I mean that just a figure of speech; couldn't think of a better word). Normally I don't like singers who scream, but Lacey uses her screaming as punctuation, not as a paragraph. I just hope and pray her voice holds out. Not bad...
I discovered Flyleaf when they came in Lille to perform just before Soulfly and Korn. I'd never heard of that band in France, and never found their discs in any shops. I must admit that I had a good surprise. The singer has a very moving voice, but she screams like hell just when you don't expect it ^_____^(we're very far from the screaming level of Angela Gossow though, but well it's not the same style we cannot really compare :p ) The whole band has an enormous presence on the stage, especially the bassist, who keeps jumping everywhere XD My favourite song ? I'd say Cassie, but the truth is, the whole album is worth listening to, if you like emotionnal lyrics with heavy sound, and if you want to break your metal listening habits for a while ;) And sorry for my approximative english ... You should own this album...seriously!
Searched for Evanescence-alikes on Pandora (pandora.com)because I love the mix between hard, nasty rock and delicate female vocals. And I found this band. There are some similarities with Evanescence but still very different. Flyleaf have a unique style of their own, that perfect blend between pain and beauty. Just like in reviews above, the CD couldn´t be found anywhere in Sweden, so I turned to old trusty eBay for satisfaction. Never stood me up before! Just got the album a couple of days ago, although I have been listening to them on Pandora. I love the whole album. E-v-e-r-y song is just so damn good! And they are all a bit different. Diverse, moody, strong and powerful. I love it when the anger and pain takes over and she suddenly screams like a monster, death-metal-style. If you like ... Well, I don't have a long history of Flyleaf but I do know this CD is just totally kick ass. Adding awsome lyrics to great music with amazing vocals and just plain kick ass players, how can't you end up with the fully awsome CD that this has come out to? If you actually found an answer to that you must have sat there for a very long time because i see absolutly no flaw what so ever in any song on this CD.
