  • Combination of Roman History and Numismatics

David Vagi's work is a two volume set. Volume One: History contains biographies leaders from the collapse of the Roman Republic through the rise of the Eastern Roman Empire. The second volume contains an introduction to numismatics and illustrated catalogue of Roman coinage from 82 B.C.through 480 A.D. The set presents an excellent overview of Roman history and coinage of the period. The bibliographies and illustrations are a plus. Serious students will want Vagi on their shelves. Intermediate collectors may wish to select a more comprehensive coverage of Roman coinage, such as David Sear's three volume Roman Coins and Their Values.
