A very worthwhile book for any harpist.
This is a wonderful compilation of valid expert recommendations. There are articles on picks, repairs, the beginnings of the Autoharp, getting started, tuning and even a plan for building a harp from scratch. This is a very interesting, well written book that's sure to be of help to me. My version is spiral bound which I like a lot.

Autoharp Design and Construction
This book should be sold with every autoharp. It is a college level primer in music theory, autoharp design and passon for the autoharp as a serious musical instrument. The content is clearly written and very detailled, but it does take study. Don't try to absorb it all at once. I will use it to repair and maintain my instruments. I will also learn the technical information on scales and the relationships of notes and strings to produce the correct sounds. This is not a folksy redition of mountain songs like the "Old Grey Goose" and how to strum "Wildwood Flower" .This book should be sold with every autoharp. It is a college level primer in music theory, autoharp design and passon for the autoharp as a serious musical instrument. The content is clearly written and very detailled, but it does take study. The best book for autoharp owners bar none
This book should be in the hands of ANYONE who buys, contemplates buying, plays or otherwise is associated with autoharps. This book can make any instrument sound better! I bought it and used it to repair and set up my first old black Oscar Schmidt that I had bought used. (the OS 73 was the entry level instrument for many years). The book has a list of resources as well as detailed instructions and illustrations in it. If you play or JUST got an old used harp you NEED this bookThis book should be in the hands of ANYONE who buys, contemplates buying, plays or otherwise is associated with autoharps. This book can make any instrument sound better! I bought it and used it to repair and set up my first old black Oscar Schmidt that I had bought used. Autoharp Owner's Manual
I bought the autoharp manual because I had recently purchased an autoharp and was unfamiliar with the instrument. This manual is pretty self explanatory, including how to fix and/or repair the 'harp. Within the first reading I was able to break the instrument down, clean, repair, and adjust many minor details and put it all back together with no problems. All the articles I have read so far seem to be fairly clear and easy to understand, which is why this manual is recommended by almost every 'harp owner and player out there. It is worth the purchase if for nothing else than to familiarize yourself with the instrument itself.I bought the autoharp manual because I had recently purchased an autoharp and was unfamiliar with the instrument. A Must for an Autoharp owner
I have met and talked with George Orthey and attended several of his Mountain Laural Mini Camps. Great guy. I bought the book to learn a little about how to improve my OS21. The book showed me how to reduce the noise and clatter of the keys, re-felt and restring, set up fine tuners and the list goes on. I now have a much better sounding and playing 'harp. You may have guessed by now that I am a do-it-your-selfer. I recommend "The Autoharp Owner's Mamual to anyone that plays or is thinking of playing an autoharp.
