The Saint Elizabeth Beiley Seton Story
This is the story of the first American-born Catholic saint, canonized in only a little more than a quarter-century ago. She was alive in the period of American History of the American Revolution to before the American Civil War. She was married & had five children. Her husband died of Tuberculosis in quarantine in Italy, in the era of the War of 1812. She returned to America shortly after his death, after observing the devout worship practices of her host family in Italy. Upon returning to America, she rceived instruction in the Roman Church & took her first communion with a group of young children. She was summoned to Baltimore by the bishop, played by Lorne Greene of Bonanza to found a religious order & school in a farm in Maryland. Two of her children died of tuberculosis; one ... The movie concludes with the live recorded service of her canonization in Rome in (?) 1975, by Pope Paul IX. The title character is played by a younger Kate Mulgrew of Star Trek Voyager fame. She played the ship's captain in that series - Captain Janeway. In many ways, this story is reflected in the story of Mother Teresa of Calcutta & her founding the order in Calcutta in the 20th century. I would recommend this movie to fans of Kate Mulgrew and those who enjoy movies of saints & how they came to be recognized & canonized by the Roman Church.

I really enjoyed this movie. It's the story of Mother Seton, America's first native born to be canonized a Saint by the Catholic Church. They couldn't have found a better actress to play Mother Seton than Kate Mulgrew, she was great. She along with John Forsythe, Lorne Green, Rossano Brazzi, Jean Pierre Aumont made for a wonderful international cast. I bought it to update my DVD collection. This DVD looks like it was from the original 35mm print. Not only is it an inspirational movie but a pleasure to look at. Beautifully Produced and photographed.
