The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother
One of the more oddball of Gene Wilders' madcap comedies, this movie was not available for some years, and I was very glad to finally replace my decrepit old VHS tape. Wilder here plays the insecure and jealous younger brother of the great Sherlock Holmes, and is forever trying to establish himself as a great Consulting Detective in his own right. He teams up with Marty Feldman (a police inspector who has "photographic hearing"), the voluptuous Madeline Khan (a compulsive liar who can only speak the truth when sexually stimulated), Dom DeLuise ((a flamboyant Italian opera star who doubles as burglar and blackmailer) and Leo McKern as arch-villain Professor Moriarty (who is insanely impelled to commit some horribly evil act every 24 minutes). The result is a loopy, high-speed farce that ...
