About this product

Product Information

Mervyn LeRoy directed this excellent biography of the life of Madam Curie, the Polish woman who discovered radium. The film presents the scientific and romantic life of Curie with great authenticity, basing the story on the biography by Curie's daughter, Eve. Greer Garson stars as a stunning woman too in love with science to have time for men. Walter Pidgeon plays her perfect complement, a man who thinks of an effective marriage as a form of chemical compound. He's right--the chemistry between the two stars is excellent, and the black-and-white photography by Joseph Ruttenberg is gorgeous. From the work in the lab to the honeymoon, the story line is treated with an integrity and intelligence that makes it as educational as it is intriguing.

The life of Madame Curie and her husband Pier.

What I love the most about this film is the deep love and respect between them! Also how they work together, tirelessly, until they find Radium! The actors are amazing! All of them! Very entertaining! Also very tragic and sad at the end. Very well done! One of those films that you can watch and enjoy every minute.

  • first woman to win a Nobel Prize in Physics~ VG movie~

Greer Garson and Walter Pidgeon are the Curies who spend years in the STUGGLE to seperate radium from Pitchblend~ VERY GOOD~ GREER GARSON is a polish student and a "woman" who is outstading in Physics captures the interest of Dr. Pierre Curie also a physics professor.AND THEY MARRY~ Soon Marie notices the pitchblend has more radioactive nature than uranium so the Curies begin the long and drawn out process of seperating the radium from the pitchbend ~ very detailed~ shows the ardous task and hardships the couple did to get the final results~ MADAME CURIE AND DR. CURIE WON THE NOBEL PEACE PRIZE IN PHYSICS~ AND SHE WAS THE FIRST WOMAN TO WIN~ MARIE AFTER PIERRES DEATH WON A SECOND WON IN CHEMISTRY~ Greer Garson is a bit hammy at times but she is fun to watch her show the disbelieving men~ ...

  • Says it all

It tells the life of a brilliant scientist and her husband from their meeting at the Sorbonne through their lives until the tragic death of Pierre. It focuses on her dogged determination to isolate radium Even as the new element caused radiation burns on her hands, she never wavered in single minded effort to accomplish her goal. Throughout the movie MS Curries genius was revealed on several levels, from the classroom to the lab and her personal life she excelled. It wasn't until the death of her husband that we saw a crack in her armour. But predictably, she overcame even that and went forward with her brilliant career.
