Joe Cocker, Leon Russell: Tour de Force!

Fabulous fun & magic from this earliest rock documentary featuring the awesome voice of legendary Joe Cocker who was geniuously propelled into US stardom by the galactically talented & well established sessions' artist, Leon Russell. Leon's masterful ear for writing, playing, orchestrating, producing, is also gloriously displayed in all manner of his profound contributions on early rock-n-roll history. "Listen to the melody, 'cuz my love is in there hidding". This is a raw, gritty insight into the world of a large touring group of exceptionally gifted musicians & singers who toured the US sharing music that just blew us away in theatres, in case you weren't lucky enough to catch them in person. Amazing! A definite must see!

  • Unless you were THERE, it can't get any better than this.....

I can't say enough great things about this video!! If you were a fan, even remotely, of Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, or Rita Coolidge, you need to see this video -- you'll fall in love with them all over again! Yes, it's old video, but that doesn't interfere with the musical 'message' whatsoever. If you were a fan of old vinyl, the quality of this footage shouldn't bother you in the least. For those who say the quality of the video somehow detracts from the total enjoyment of the footage, I couldn't disagree more. And I read where somebody said there wasn't much concert footage, that it was mostly of time the band and entourage spent on the bus, the plane, or backstage -- again, I couldn't disagree more! BUY IT -- turn it up and enjoy it!! You'll be glad you did!!

  • Mad Dogs & Englishmen

In this day of high definition this doesn't measure up. But the songs take me back and just watching this group of performers together is awesome. Wish I had seen this live. I did see Leon twice (back to back weekends - because the 1st was so good). This is very much worth having.

  • For every Cocker fan.

This was the second Mad Dogs DVD I bought on line. The first one had slightly different cover design and was in Spanish. I also suspected that it didn't have all the songs. Felt like a bootleg. Having said that, if you like Cocker as much as I do you should get this. I will only say that in between songs you get a heavy dose of hippy culture which I find off-putting.

  • From the cradle of Rock n Roll

Only thing better than Joe Cocker on this DVD is Leon Russell. IMHO the genius behind the Joe Cocker sound. I wore out the Cassette tape in the early 70s and lost the CD in the 90s. LOVE me some Mad Dogs and Englishmen.
