About this product

Product Information

Call of Cthulhu is a first-person horror adventure set in an appropriately disturbing universe based on the works of author H.P. Lovecraft. The game's 3D-rendered environments are not static, as windows can be broken and walls can collapse, adding to the sense of the unknown and encouraging player interaction. As the adventure progresses through diverse locations, the player will also be called upon to pilot a variety of different vehicles, including an airplane, a submarine, and even a dogsled. Multiplayer features are supported, as up to four gamers can join for cooperative play over a local network or the Internet. Online players can also face off in deathmatch battles.

  • What an eldrich and outré thing this game is.

The esoteric and antiquarian nature of this game's story is evocative of nightmarish imagery. The graphics have a gnawing tenebrous quality that gets under your skin, while there are a few displacing elements, such as plainly polygonal wheels, and low resolution haging photographs and paintings, the exellent environment textures and the use of separate model peices in doors and cracks in walls, and the like add a level of pseudo-realism that many games, ecen now, are afraid to explore, opting instead to utilize bumpmap textures to create illusory depth, but this game has the guts to put multi part doors even on buildings that are never deplorable. I truly appreciate the boldness of this game for its time. The method of installation is highly convenient as well.

  • Never buy this game. Ever. It is almost unplayable.

What might potentially be a great survival-horror game is actually one of the worst games I have ever had the misfortune of playing. The developers did such an incredibly TERRIBLE job that there are so many bugs and other game play issues, not only making it near impossible to beat without cheating (and even WITH cheating) but just down right asinine and infuriating to play. It's clear that the game was not QA tested whatsoever. I am glad that Headfirst productions tanked so soon after it released a game on the public that is so terribly produced, they deserve worse. The game has good ideas (the sanity system), and great atmosphere (it is truly frightening through and through), but has so many technical failures it is not worth anyone's time. The weapon system is stodgy ...

  • Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth pc

Excellent adaption of Lovecrafts' world. Turn out the lights and play this at night. Graphics are good, story is excellent, game play nearly perfect. Fans of Thief series games would find much to enjoy as the narrator seems to be the same actor who voiced Garrett the thief.. Stealth is a big part of the play here as well.. Very creepy and inventive on the whole.. The only drawbacks are perhaps two times when the Save Icon is on the other end of a long grueling sequence that must be performed exactly.. Complaints about that are well documented but if you take a break and go back to it after a day you can beat every roadblock no problem.. There is no game quite like this and I'm sorry that it's sequels have been canceled. If you liked any of the Thief titles, give this a try..

  • Indiana Jones type adventure

I prefer games like Thief Gold that relies on adverse tactics other than carrying a dozen weapons where you do nothing but run & shoot !! Sure, the graphics are outdated, however much of the scenery fits the gritty undertone of fear that is presented, especially with the camera affects of the sanity of the character. Here you do spend quite a bit of time in evasive tactics, and ammo is scarce. the story evolves into some grandure scenes... I would think this would make a fantastic Hollywood movie. A bit of Indiana Jones in a Horror flick crossed with Journey to the center of the Earth. Its not an easy game, and there are no cheats to speak of. You spend much time exploring and using your brain to reach progress points. --- You can't save at any time but must reach save points to do ...

  • Amazing Atmosphere, Good Gameplay

This is essentially fan service to all those who love H.P. Lovecraft. The 1920's atmosphere is displayed well, and provides an overall feeling of creepiness. The lack of HUD is nice and there are many game mechanics which tie into the mythos. Unfortunately, these are not always implemented well, as are the forced stealth sections. Gun-play is fine for what it's meant to do. The main character's monotone voice gets annoying after awhile. Despite these gripes, the game is still worth picking up, highly recommended.
