I have seen some of this author's creations in person. They're even more amazing than the ones featured in his book! At some time in the future, I want to create some personality dolls myself, so this book, I hope, will be a great reference tool.

Miniature Figures Come to Life
James Carrington from London,theatre design and Nottingham College of Art trained, now doll maker, his dolls found in museums and private collections round the world. This is what sold me on this book. Detail, detail, detail......At every turn of the page intricate detail of expression, costuming,body types, hands, feet, wigs. These little 1/12 size characters are able to project emotion and feeling in action as if they were actors on a stage. I have not seen any other book like this. Only a theatre design artist could bring this kind of life to clay!! A must have book for any figure artists library,lots of sketches, color photos and writing to help us achieve personality in our clay characters. Carrington lectures, and gives workshops from his London home from time to time. He is a ... The book gives an over view of making 1/12 dolls. It is different from others in that it deal with expression while others deal with costume more. Not the only book you'll ever need but worth having if you truly want to make dolls.

This book has lots of pictures and for me, pictures say as much as words. For anyone serious about learning to sculpt, carve and make character dolls, this is the book you should buy. It takes you from step one to finish with much in between as well as how to make moulds if you should be interested in that. Included are graphs/sizes for children through adults, man and woman, young and old. I am pleased I made this purchase.This book has lots of pictures and for me, pictures say as much as words.
