Considered by many to be the best Elvis movie, KING CREOLE stars the young Mr. Presley as Danny Fisher, a singer with a knack for getting into trouble. After the cops nab him for stealing, Danny vows never to violate the law again. He manages to land a gig singing at a hip nightclub in the French Quarter of New Orleans. However, mobster Maxie Fields (Walter Matthau) soon demands that Danny perform exclusively for him. And to make matters worse, Danny gets involved with Maxie's squeeze (Carolyn Jones) and risks losing his own true love, Nellie (Dolores Hart), as well as his own neck.

A Welcome change from his typical role!
I loved this movie simply because it's so unlike the typical boy meets girl, boy chases girl role that he tends to play.... it seemed almost like an old school "beginning" mafia movie that truly showed Elvis was just as talented as I've always known him to be:) The non "good boy" image showed how things don't always play hand-in-hand for the perfect happy ending, but a non-stop twisting of love, lies and entertainment.I loved this movie simply because it's so unlike the typical boy meets girl, boy chases girl role that he tends to play.... it seemed almost like an old school "beginning" mafia movie that truly showed Elvis was just as talented as I've always known him to be:) The non "good boy" image showed how things don't always play hand-in-hand for the perfect happy ending, but a non-stop twisting of love, lies and entertainment.

One of Elvis' best!!
This movie is simply a great film for its day. Elvis proves that he could have been a GREAT actor, Col Parker would have let him!! This is definately not the typical movie with Elvis singing to dogs in a helicopter, or singing on a motorcycle with no band around! This IS a movie to see Elvis for who he wanted to be. His Army enlistment was post-poned for him to complete this movie. Filmed by the same director as "Casablanca". Highly recommended for those who may not be a huge Elvis fan but would like to become one! Just a GREAT movie!!This movie is simply a great film for its day. This is a movie from a time when Elvis was still trying to do his best to prove himself as an actor and maybe be able to break away from the songs. Unfortunately, as we all know his management had other ideas and it's too bad because this one really shows that he had natural acting skills. Really great acting and story and hey, the songs were always good in this era.
