This thing is the tank of laptops

This base of this machine has been around for ten years.....YES, Apple should have upgraded it in a better way but, they are too big to know why. The laptop can be upgraded to 8gb easily but, the nicest upgrade - sporting almost a 3X speed upgrade - you can put almost ANY SSD drive into this on the cheap! I keep a dongle so that I can plug into a bigger screen and, I carry a Bluetooth mouse. I like the fact that the battery is NOT built into the top case so, again, something that I can change three years down the road.

  • Top critical review

    Video card glitch

Would not recommend this one, it has the problem with the video card graphics going out and causing spontaneous reboots. Too bad, it is fast and capable otherwise. But the unreliability of it crashing at random times makes it unusable.

  • Great for a small screen laptop

The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is that Apple and retailers don't max out the RAM. With All the Macs I've had, every one needed the maximum amount of memory they will take. And with El Capitan OS it really needs 16 GB, period. That's one major reason I bought this; because I can upgrade the RAM. It's much more powerful than my old Macbook and fits the case I had for it.

  • Awesome computer performance wise, LCD screen makes it a bit heavy though.

Excellent computer, used to have a Macbook Air so be warned of my bias! Performance wise it rocks, incredible graphics, awesome response time, snazzy apps, no complaints here. Truly love it. DEFINITELY worth the 1300 I paid for it, very low price for the 1TB SSD and 16GB RAM. Compared to other computers I've had, PC's and Mac's its quite heavy, perhaps because of LCD screen. But again, Macbook Air person here :). The LCD screen is worth it. Now the only reason I gave it a 4, and it really deserves a 4.9 or 4.8, is battery-wise (this is a brand new computer 12 cycle count beginning day 1 and this is only day 7). I decided to test the battery, now according to Apple it should last at least 7 hours, running fully, surfing, browsing, editing, well I left the screen at ...

  • Good value for the money!

I bought this Macbook to be able to edit music videos weekly, I use Premiere Pro and most of the time it runs smoothly, however there are many times where it crashes or I get a frozen screen. I like the sleek aluminum design and the Hard Drive has plenty of space. The fact that it can't have a dedicated graphics card is what brings this down to 4 stars for me. All in all it is a good option for editing leisurely, its a good start, higher end editing would probably require the mac pro, iMac, any PC with a Xeon processor and the ability to add a graphics card.
