Great Amplifier to Break Into Hi-Fi
I was unfamiliar with Sonance amplifiers until just prior to purchasing this particular model. I will get right to it. For the price, I know of nothing better. The sound is sweet, and smooth with a wonderful presence and good soundstage depth. Bass is not lacking, it is instead tight and to the point, without adding it's own coloration to the sound and without extra wobbly, left-over bass that artificially exaggerates the lower portion of the frequency response in nearly all receivers and some cheaper separate amplifiers. So, what you'll here is a cello play the note and stop, instead of a boomy sound that was never present in the music. The female voice is wonderful. Norah Jones can still bring the chills through this amp, sounding a few feet forward on stage than I am used to, with m ... For those that don't "get" this lingo, I am referring to how well the amplifier places sounds in the listening room, and how well each source is placed in the location the musicians would be on a real stage (thus the term soundstage). This amp probably wins out by just a tad over my usual amplifier, in that category anyway. Now, for reference so you all will be able to place this amp with other equipment for comparison's sake, My usual setup involves Rotel amplification (a near exact wattage match---RB985bx Mk ii THX @110w x5)--I fell in love with Rotel back in the late 90's when this amp's sort-of predecessor made it into Stwreophile Magazine's top recommended components list. Rotel is known for modestly priced high end equipment that by design is able to equal and even out perform amplifiers costing double, triple....even five times the price in some instances. I've personally seen a Rotel amplifier replace a $10,000 dual mono-block tube amplification setup, and while there were noticeable differences in the sound of the system as a whole with the switch-out, the Rotel hardly was out of place, sonically, in that top tier stereo. Rotel is just good. To handle Dolby true HD and all that, I have hooked up my Outlaw Audio Model 975 preamp/processor, Oppo BDP103-D Blu-ray player (very awesome player that upconverts blurays so well there's just barely an improvement when playing actual 4k blurays on my Samsung UHD player), B&W mains, Fluance surrounds, Bose surround backs, DCM Kevlar center channel and Verwin Vega 15" sub (yeah, the sub will shake the house). I must digress, though, because the Sonance was listened to in stereo mode with all other amplifiers, subwoofers, TV, etc., turned off. The mids and highs through the Sonance were very beautiful, with the lower two-thirds of Norah's voice spot-on and just a little nicer sounding than the Rotel, but the little tiny part on top seemed a bit more pronounced; not quite "edgy," but I heard upper mids more from the Sonance than from my ultra smooth Rotel. Overall, I got a great deal in this amplifier. It has tons of power, a very handsome toroidal transformer and a couple of good-sized main capacitors... Stuff we audio nerds look at right away, and the sound equaled and even heated the Rotel in many areas, with just a little thing here and there that gives the Rotel the overall nod. Not a bad day at all for an amp that costs so little being compared to a so-called "giant killer." I do t know about all Sonance amps, this is the only one I've tried, but it sounds amazing. Sure, the cabinet is a tad on the cheap aide and the on/off switch is just a tad more on the cheap, but hey, it turns the unit on and off so..... If you find a good deal on this amp, Dint hesitate; it's a very nice surprise.

These amps, if you can find them, are the best value in used amplifiers, they are manufactured by ATI a hugely respected American amplifier company. They have made amps for the likes of Krell, Adcom and many many more. Nominally rated at 120 WPC @ 8ohms, clipping at 1% THD into 4ohms is a whopping 250+ WPC. Another positive is they are nearly indestructible, they will handle super low impedance loads down to 2 ohms or less. Nothing to really look at but if you value sound and are on the lookout for one of the best values in used audio these are the ones to look for. Plus they are responsive to questions about their old gear.
