Chesapeake-- all the above checked boxes.

I read this book 7 years ago. I saw on internet lately and wanted for my small library. I was a history and political science major in college. Book encompasses my interest in development of the USA. Jane

    Chesapeake is great!

I so enjoy James Michener historical novels, and have read Chesapeake before, but am really looking forward to reading it again. My only sad thing is that I thought it was a soft bound book not hard bound, as an elder person I find it hard to read in bed with a hard backed book.

  • Chesapeake by James Michener who is still missed.

I bought this book so I could reread it and relive the excitement found there, as in all of James Michener's epics. This one is about my home so it is particularly wonderful. Although his stories are technically fiction, there is a vast amount of history and one can picture the scenes and action as they unfold. I see in my mind's eye, the Baltimore Harbor as it was, in its squalor, and the beauty as it has become. The twists of families made me begin to think of my own, mostly unknown, ancestors. Ii have devoured this book numerous times over the past 38 years and will probably continue as long as I can. This copy is not in pristine condition, which is exactly what I wanted. There is no reason to be careful in handling this copy and if it is borrowed, and not returned ...

  • One of the best Michener book ever

A well researched historical novel that gives a vivid picture of the history of the Chesapeake Bay over the centuries. Have read the book twice already and bought this copy because I gave my last book to a friend to read. Museums in the Chesapeake Bay such as in St. Michaels and Solomons Island reflect the history described by Michener.
