Peter Weller stars in this urban sci-fi Western as Murphy, a good cop who literally gets shot to pieces while on duty and winds up reborn as a crime-fighting machine. An ambitious executive (Miguel Ferrer) at OCP, the corporation running the futuristic city of Detroit, fuses Murphy's torso with bulletproof steel limbs and rewires his brain with computer chips so he will have no will of his own. Murphy's former partner (Nancy Allen) tries to help RoboCop remember his human past, but his circuitry blocks whatever dim memories remain. Luckily, a chance encounter with one of his killers wakes up the human essence in RoboCop, causing him to rebel against his programming and commence on a one-cyborg mission of vengeance that leads all the way to the top of OCP. This second English-language film by Dutch director Paul Verhoeven is unremittingly brutal, darkly comic, and filled with bits of clever satire and pathos. A special highlight is the hilariously incompetent ED-209, RoboCop's main rival in the department of automated law enforcement. Considered by many critics to be one of the best films of its genre, ROBOCOP was followed by several sequels and a 1994 TV series.

"An unmemorable video game adaption of a memorable film" Graphics: 7 The graphics, for the most part, are good. The sole exception is ED-209, whose movements are terribly animated. Another minor nitpick: RoboCop (who supposedly stands at 6'2'') is enormous in size when compared to almost everyone else onscreen, making him look more like Shaquille O'Neal from the movie ''Steel.'' Sound: 4 There is a noticable lack of variation in music, and the sound effects are barely acceptable. Control: 5 RoboCop cannot jump. Also, the simple task of walking down a stairway can be a chore. Enemies who happen to sneak up on RoboCop from behind are best countered with a punch, since he always seems to shoot at a downward angle immediately after turning around. An average gamer will probably have beaten all six levels within a matter of hours. Fun: 4 One word: repetitive. The same half-dozen or so enemies pop up throughout the entire game, the same mediocre tunes play in every level, and those who get through it all probably won't be too eager to do so again. The bonus stages, which involve shooting moving targets (hit over thirty and receive an extra life), are surprisingly some of the most thrilling moments in the entire game. Overall: 5 Bottom line: this game really disappoints, especially when compared to the original source material upon which it is based. ''RoboCop'', released in 1987, was both a clever satire and a thoroughly exciting action movie, not to mention one of the most memorable science fiction films of the 80's. This mediocre video game adaption is sorely lacking in those qualities, as it is just your basic, run-of-the-mill actioner, quickly thrown together by Data East back in 1989 for the sole purpose of cashing in on the character's popularity. This is a game that fans of the films and/or television show could probably do without,but if your a die hard fan you might want to pick it up.

My first film to game experience
Robocop is one of the better film-to-game adaptations I have played over the years, but that really isn’t saying much. Film-to-game adaptations are notorious for being lousy with broken controls, substandard graphics, and terrible sounds effects. I have heard from many sources this happens because production of the game is rushed to cash in while the film it is based on is hot. Also, there may be apathy towards quality since the publisher thinks the association with the film will be enough to get us suckers to fork over the cash. But I digress. Graphically, Robocop is functional. Being a relatively early NES title, the graphics aren’t anything to swoon about. Robocop’s sprite is fairly detailed and it looks like most of the effort in the graphics department was to make him look ... The rest of the enemies look like glorified Atari sprites with just a few colors and almost no detail. The backgrounds at least offer some variety, but are about average at best. I don’t really recall a moment while playing that I saw something that blew me away or made me at least mildly amused. Overall, the graphics would get a 4 out of 10. I hope you like the Robocop theme song, because you will hear it through almost the entire game. I think other than boss encounters, there isn’t any other tunes. If you put any significant time playing this game, it will be difficult not to unconsciously start humming this song while making toast. The sound effects are pretty crude and sound more like random noise. I would give the music and sound effects a 3 out of 10. Sure the graphics and sound aren’t the best, but if the game play is great then you can look past those flaws. As much as I would like to confirm that statement in regards to Robocop, my better judgment will not allow it. The best way to describe the game play is sparse. Sure, back in the NES days, technical limitations kept games from doing anything fancy we take for granted today. At least, there were games during that era that were creative and made the most out of those limitations such as Mega Man, Ninja Gaiden, and Super Mario Bros. to name a few. In Robocop, you move slowly and are limited to punches and no jumping is allowed. Climbing stairs is about all you can do other than punch, shoot, and walk. At certain points in a level, Robocop will do a semi-cool animation of drawing his gun and you get to shoot. From what I can recall, you had your default gun with infinite ammo, a submachine gun with terrible range, and the Cobra Gun that fired a huge ball of death but with very limited ammo. The enemies you face either run at you and do kung fu kicks or they are stationary and shoot at you. ED-209 and some other bosses mix up the combat like the level where the mayor is begin held hostage. A few times there is a bonus level where you are shooting at targets. It is mildly amusing. Game play would get a 4 out of 10. If I were to rate Robocop on a five star scale, I would give 3 stars. But that would factor in my nostalgia bias, so my non-nostalgic biased rating would be 2 stars. If you never played this game and went back and played it you would literally be taken back to 1988 in terms of video game technology. It’s like when I played Pong for the first time after playing my NES. I really can’t recommend this game unless you loved the movie or you collect NES games. This review is much longer than I intended, and for that I apologize.

it is a great game, of course its wicked hard because its on the nes system. But I do like it a lot! I don't own number 2, I'm sure its better. For a nes game it's up there on the cool to play and robo cop is cool in my book. I have the box set and have watched it numerous times. That's why i had to buy it, it also it came with the manual which you need for any nes game. Since theres is only 2 buttons, there is usually some kind of button combo to do some important function. Well that's it, get it, play it, enjoy it!it is a great game, of course its wicked hard because its on the nes system. But I do like it a lot! I don't own number 2, I'm sure its better. NES game titled after the movie Robocop
Great game if you liked the movie's. Brought back fond memories from year's ago. Only one thing about the game I wish was changed, you only get three continue's and then you start over at the very beginning. Other than that it is a great game.
