Biopic of a dancer who achieved the nearly-impossible
Wow! Josephine Baker is my new hero! She achieved international stardom as a singer and dancer, became very wealthy, opposed the Nazis in France during World War 2, fought for civil rights in America, and adopted twelve children of different races. Josephine's achievements were, at the time, considered impossible for a woman of color born into poverty in the American South, and yet her story is true. The film does not mention some of the less-admirable aspects of her life (for example, it omits the fact that she charged admission for people to see her children). But what we do see is mostly accurate. The film is definitely enjoyable and will spark your interest in learning more about Josephine Baker. Wow! Josephine Baker is my new hero! The Josephine Baker Story
This was a great movie, since I admire Josephine Baker. It did a good job of portraying her life, from growing up in the Racist, Bigoted, Prejudiced South through until her death. Josephine starts out playing slapstick comedy, but ends up a wealthy Dancer after she moves to Paris. She does her famous "Banana Dance," where she dances basically nude except for a bunch of bananas strung around her hips. Josephie dances Nude or Paritally Nude alot. In Euporpe people are crazy about her, but back in the US she finds bitter disappointment. She goes back to Europe and begins adopting what becomes known as her "Rainbow Tribe." These are the cildren that she adopt from different ethnic groups, different countries. She is unable to have children of her own. ... This was a great movie, since I admire Josephine Baker.
