About this product

Product Information

Eddie Van Halen helped develop the Dunlop MXR EVH 90 Phase Shifter guitar effects pedal, giving amateur and professional players the ability to modulate their signals and get that rich vintage warbling heard in "Eruption." A characteristic phase shifter sound with a hint of flanger, the EVH90 stompbox adds the right kind of swirl to your licks for a unique sonic experience. For added flexibility, the pedal includes an alternate phaser circuit you can access with the press of a button. The MXR EVH Phase 90 comes with attractive red visuals with black and white linear details, reminiscent of Van Halen’s very own line of Frankenstrat custom shop guitars. At a glance, you can see the MXR EVH Phase 90 pedal is visually striking and intuitive. The Speed knob controls the velocity of the phase shifting. At a low speed, the result is a psychedelic, slow-motion envelope that makes several bars of music come together beautifully. Turn it up all the way to the right to make every note vibrate with the phasing. Play with the intermediate settings to find the right speed for your tempo and mood. Experiment with alternate techniques to find quirky, expressive sounds such as the whooshing style of palm muting at the beginning of Van Halen’s "Atomic Punk," which was recorded using this very same effect. The unit has two sturdy switches. At the center, the footswitch lights a blue LED when stomped on, turning the EVH90 phaser on. Built for use and abuse, this is a stock part of MXR pedals, preferred by demanding players for their quality and reliability onstage. The smaller Script switch alternates between block logo and script logo phase-shifting effects. The former is based on more recent versions of this effect, creating a clearer and brighter tone that goes well with distortion in modern rock tunes. The Script sound is characteristic of a vintage phaser, boasting the warmer acoustic vibes that marked the 70s. Whether you are a fan of classic tunes or wish to experiment with new effects, this is a perfect addition to your gear. Used mostly by electric guitar players, many bass players have discovered the EVH Phase 90 adds a funky attitude to their playing, adding this unit to their modulation accessories. At a comfortable 11 ounces and measuring 4.25 inches long by 2.25 inches wide, this pedal is sure to feel right at home on any pedal board or gear setup. With a distinctive color pattern and high-brightness LEDs, this unit is as eye-catching as it is easy to use. Simply hook it up to an outlet with an optional power adapter or fill in the battery compartment for care-free rocking without any extra accessories.

    MXR EVH Phase 90

Great pedal that does exactly what you would expect it to do, exactly how you would want it to. No surprises, this gives that EVH phase tone that you would expect. Solid construction as you would expect from a product endorsed by Eddie.

  • Classic, subtle phase pedal

At an MSRP of $130 new, this pedal is a bit pricey for a one trick pony. However, you'd be hard pressed to acheive the same signature sound from any multi-effects device. Other phase shifters may have more features, but they often go overboard with regard to the resulting processed signal. This pedal is actually 2 pedals in one; The newer MXR "Block" logo Phase 90, and with a push of a switch, it becomes the more subtle vintage "Script" logo Phase 90, which sounds like it mixes some of the input signal with the effect output. Eddie Van Halen and many others have used this device to provide a dramatic backdrop for their wall of sound.

  • The great upgrade script logo Phase 90 Shifter

I used the "block print" version of the Phase 90 shifter for many years. After reading reviews about the advantages of the reissue Script Logo version I decided to try it. The difference in sound is obvious. The effect is very pleasant. More subtle, sweeter and warmer then the less expensive model. Worth to trade up, at least for my ears, my playing style and taste. I use it with an electric violin along with several other effects and the Phase 90 is turned on for most music I play. It's really an essential or even a secret weapon of my signature sound. • You need one!

I love this thing. You get both Block and script voicing with the EVH Phase 90.

  • Excellent product. Very satisfied.

First of all I bought the MXR script phase 90 not the EVH. I bought this pedal, because I played on one in the 80's and loved the way it sounded with distortion. I have an Electro Harmonix small stone phase shifter. I like it very much,it sounds good playing clean, but with distortion on the midrange swell is a little much for my taste. Don't misunderstand the small stone is an excellent pedal, but I believe the MXR sounds better for heavy rock or metal. And it sounds good on a clean channel as well. It's built well and does what it's supposed to do.
