About this product

Product Information

Beau Bridges stars in this black comedy that spoofs media manipulation, tabloid sensationalism, and the business of politics in this dark vision of a not-so-futuristic America. With a planeload of immigrant Pakastani orphans heading to his state for permanent relocation, the Governor of Idaho (Bridges) decides to defy the President (Phil Hartman) and close the state's border. News Net Television, a CNN-like cable news program that dominates the race for ratings by reporting on every possible political scandal or upset, quickly becomes involved and spins the racist act into an overnight media sensation, creating a divide in national opinion of both the Governor and the President. With a nervous country looking on--and the Governor romancing a NewsNet reporter (Leslie Pena) who's covering the story--it looks like Idaho may just start the second Civil War. THE SECOND CIVIL WAR is an original comedy from HBO.

  • Very Serious, Funny, and Entertaining

A great fictional and entertaining story. But unfortunately our deeply divided society seems to be moving in this direction. Our politicians could easily stop it, but they don't care, and are in fact making it much worse.

  • I saw this on HBO when it first came out. Love the movie and most of the characters are portrayed by many of my favorite actors/actresses.

  • A Movie Some Don't Want You To Watch!

This movie was filmed in the 1990's and is dead on about today's politics. Although a comedy, it has some dangerous similarities to today's administration. It's obvious why its not shown on HBO at this time in our country's history. Too many people would be thinking about what our administration doesn't want us/you to think about. It's not just my opinion, I showed this movie to high school students, college students, laborers and graduate students. They all said the same thing. It shows an administration that has gone too far and it's scary as to how close it is to our present day problems and situations.

  • Civil War

I bought this movie for a friend. I saw it years ago on tv. I believe in some ways it shows where are federal government is headed. It is a "B" movie, but not bad.
