If you want to go wireless using your fixed broadband connection or upgrade to wireless-N connectivity, this unit offers a hybrid solution for all your home Wi-Fi needs. Compatible with Windows and Mac-based systems, it can quickly be installed using the special software that comes with the product. Plus, maintenance is straightforward with the unit’s ease-of-management features. For wired connectivity, the Linksys X2000 features three 10/100 LAN ports. This enables you to link up to three devices, including computers, laptops and printers, to your system via an Ethernet cable. This unit also includes two Internet ports: a DSL jack for the phone line that will feed the integrated ADSL2+ modem and an Ethernet wide area network (WAN) port to hook up a cable modem. This provides you with great flexibility and convenience if the need to switch from one type of service to another ever arises. Defined by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the Wi-Fi standard 802.11n is built into this wireless modem router. Using the multiple input multiple output antenna technology, this unit increases throughput and improve data transmission rates for you to enjoy faster and more reliable connections. Enjoy wireless speeds of up to 300 megabits per second, which is ideal for surfing the web, sending emails, downloading large files or chatting with family and friends. You can even stream your favorite movies to your smart television while maintaining peak performance. Backwards compatible with previous Wi-Fi standards, this Linksys unit also works with any 802.11 a/b/g-compliant wireless devices. When it comes to security issues, this router has you covered. It offers advanced security protocols and an integrated serial peripheral interface firewall to maintain the privacy of your online communications and personal information. With just a single push of the Wi-Fi protected setup button, you can enable various encryption algorithms, including Wi-Fi protected access (WPA) and WPA for either enterprise and personal options, wired equivalent privacy both 128 and 64-bit versions and MAC address filtering. Configuring this device based on your preferences only takes a few minutes. Even if you have no prior experience in installing networking hardware, the Linksys X2000 comes with the Cisco Connect program to facilitate quick deployment and get your system up and running in no time. With the built-in Web interface, you can easily set up the service set identifier and password. Cisco Connect also enables you to create a separate network for your guests to protect your sensitive data. Plus, this unit lets you implement parental controls and restrictions to ensure your kids do not have access to potentially harmful websites. Other useful management features include testing your connection speed with the broadband speed meter and perform a regular automated check for firmware updates.

Great moden/router if you know how to program it.

A lot of people give this unit a bad review, but that's probably because most reviews are given only when something goes wrong. So I guess it's a problem for some with the over heating but has not happened to me. As far as having to reset the modem all the time, your problem is the keep-alive feature. In PPPoE mode set it to dial every 30 sec. I have Qwest / Centurylink in Boulder Colorado at 7Mbps using ADSL2+ Has same speed test rating with WPA2 on or off and the only draw back is the the Wi-Fi signal could be a little stronger but it's strong enough to cover all of my little split level house. Now I get 7.5Mbps on ethernet and 7.3Mbps on Wi-Fi but I only ever got 7.1Mbps Ethernet & 6.1Mbps with the actiontec dsl modem with b/g Wi-Fi I had from the telephone company 7 years ago.

  • Not good for Venezuela

This product can not be used as Modem in Venezuela. You can use it only as Router. The main internet provider (CANTV) in Venezuela do not accept this device because they don't distribute this product.

  • Good product, recommended for people who need ADSL2+ connection.

Its a great router. Its definitely better than the other netgear router that I have. I'm not saying Ciscos are better than netgear. I had a netgear which was really snappy fast. But cost wise, the refurb version of the cisco ($25 I bought for) is better than the similar netgear my ISP gave me. The best part is, it works on ADSL2+ as well as works as a wifi router. I bought it mainly for my home in India, where we use ADSL2+ connection (ISP- BSNL). Set up is weird though, you need a CD-ROM drive on your machine and need to use the CD that comes with the product. I dislike that feature, a simple router address and configuring through browser is what I prefer. Anyway, in all, a good piece and I do recommend it IF, you need an ADSL2+ connection.

  • Perfect product!! Recommend it ...

If you are looking for an all in one wireless device which supports either DSL or cable, it sounds perfect. Some were disappointed with WiFi coverage and easy setup security but I disagree with them. For network coverage, it covers a flat or office completely but obviously if you want more you have to buy a network extender which created professionally as a booster. Some say the web interface of setup is very slow, it is true but by upgrading the firmware to 2.0.1 it will be solved. Another problem that some reported is, when you install Cisco Connect Setup Software on the PC or laptop it becomes admin and so you have access to setup via Cisco application (without password) and this means you should not install the easy setup software on every system. Totally I believe this wireless modem ...

  • Cisco Linksys X2000

As the Linksys brand slowly recedes into the distance and the Cisco brand takes prominence, we have the Cisco Linksys X2000. It's a basic modem/router following the same design cues as the company's previous "UFO"-shaped routers, although this time comes in a matte black, rather than glossy black and blue. You can choose to set up guest internet access, of course, and just give someone the password, but this prevents access to local network resources. I strongly recommend you toss the CD as a result, and set things up manually through the web interface
