Norman Lear's groundbreaking (not to mention taboo-breaking!) 1970s television series features Carroll O' Connor as the notoriously bigoted, working class family man Archie Bunker. Archie's conservative views can't help but affect his interactions with his family, which consists of his scatterbrained but saintly wife Edith (Jean Stapleton), daughter Gloria (Sally Struthers), and liberal son in-law Mike "Meathead" Stivic (Rob Reiner). A landmark in the frank, outrageously funny way it dealt with social issues and stereotypes, ALL IN THE FAMILY ran from 1971 to 1983, garnering 48 Emmy nominations, and spawning several spin-offs, including MAUDE, GOOD TIMES, and THE JEFFERSONS. This three-DVD set includes all 13 raucous episodes from the show's first season.

A hilarious show that incorporates prejudiced minds with open minds
Tasteful prejudism? Maybe not. After all, prejudism never is tasteful. However, the writers surely did do a great job of making us understand that Mr. Bunker is just plain pig-headed, as is his neighbor, Mr. Jefferson. The two make a very comical pair and they are comical without one another, as well. it is full of "Archie-isms"-- Archie's theories; his definition of things that take place that are less than desirable to him. What about Archie's wife, Edith? She is definitely different, but the sweetest, most giving person ever. She sees no difference in color, race, etc. and sometimes it drives Archie crazy. She has the funniest outlook on life and Archie’s' ways rarely bother her. She is who she is and you either love her for her sweetness or hate her for her ... Tasteful prejudism? Maybe not. I never liked him because he is not so nice and to me always seemed like an ongoing cheater. I always hated that Gloria picked him to marry. She could have done soooo much better. But, it's just a show and who would Archie pick on if Meathead was not around?

All in the Family, The First Season
I remember watching this show as a young teenager, and how funny it was. I got it to watch again mainly for nostalgia. It's wasn't quite as funny as I remember, but still very good, and certain scenes got me to break out laughing just like I remembered. The picture quality was great. I think later seasons episodes they opened up a bit more and were funnier still. It is a great show I was born in 92 but grew up watching this show and The Jefferson's these shows were groundbreaking I wish they made shows like this today instead of everyone getting offended by anything and everything

These new production seasons of the ALL IN THE FAMILY television series are as funny as they were in the 70's!! We cannot say that they are politically correct for this day and age, but dont believe they were in the early 70's either. If you enjoyed the original televsion series, you will not at all be disappointed!! Though when watching these new productions, the episodes seem to fly by before you know it since the commercials have been cut out. The picture quality compares to that of when it was aired on television. We were hoping for a better quality picture, but then again, maybe todays digital mastering may have dampened the authenticity of the original series, as how we all remember it.
