A quiet gem
This lovely, quiet comedy features normal-looking people engaged in their passion (metal detecting). The outdoor scenes, where our detectorists wield their tools in fallow fields and chat philosophically with one another, are like a summer day remembered. The characters are believable, and the writers portray these quirky people with honesty, never making fun. The plots are engaging and funny. Lovely to see Dame Diana Rigg and her real-life daughter Rachael Stirling playing mother and daughter in the series. This comedy is like few others on TV. Where is the dry humor. Two guys talking under a tree. One has had a bad divorce. The other starts to stray from his long time love. The love does not even try to connect to her man. The catalyst of infidelity becomes a detectorist and starts to unravel a long term commitment. The divorced man still holds a bonfire in his heart for the wife that left him for a taller and buffed up man with a bad temper and no personality. This is a critics con job on us.
