About this product

Product Information

Microsoft's answer to Gran Turismo switches gears from Xbox to Xbox 360 with the release Forza Motorsport 2. The added horsepower of the Xbox 360 allows for high-definition visuals, advanced special effects, and a frame rate that clocks in at 60 frames per second. More than 60 tracks are available to race on, including such authentic venues as Silverstone Circuit, Mazda Raceway Laguna, and Sebring International Raceway. Gearheads can acquire more than 300 licensed vehicles from 50 top manufacturers, with each car's performance influenced by damage or wear, weather, and road conditions.

An assortment of tuning parts and customization options exist, as players decide on suspension kits, engines, body kits, brakes, paint schemes, and more before adjusting their vehicle's tire pressure, gear ratios, and various other settings from within a garage. Prized wheels can be snapped for fun or posterity in the "Forza Photo Mode," and Xbox Live support is once again included for players to test drive their custom cars while earning special credits to unlock bonus features. Races between rival cars can also be viewed on "Forza Motorsport TV," which lets players learn driving strategies and techniques from the top racers on Xbox Live.

    Game changer

Many Forza enthusiasts think the second in a long line of evolutionary steps was the best. Forza 2 represented a big leap forward in terms of graphics, tracks available and realistic handling. Clean, uncomplicated gameplay was a hallmark of this version. Sadly, the support has dwindled (after all this is very old in terms of video games), but you can still play against online opponents and this game offers fairly exciting racing dynamics. Need for Speed, Gran Turismo, F1, Shift: all the rival franchises have their rabid fans, but none (IMO) hold a candle to Forza Motorsport. What about the experience of dealing with support? In our present age of "anything to please the consumer...until we have ALL their money; then we couldn't care less" there's really not much difference between, say, ...

  • A nearly perfect racing game (NEARLY perfect)

I'll get right down to it: PROS: Excellent fluidity and smooth-running graphics engine for the game. The realism of car handling and dynamics, especially performance under car damage, seems to capture more of the driving essence which should be a staple of any racing game(a feature Gran Turismo has yet to address) By far Forza 2 is an improvement on one of the most realistic racers available today. Car selection is fantastic, and course selection is fairly expansive. Car customization options gives you a limitless combination of stuff to do with your car...you can probably spend days fine tuning and still have room for improving your car. CONS: To sacrifice for smoothness, the graphics have become a little jagged (i.e. a sacrifice of rasterization for speed) but when you play such a ...

  • Wonderfull engine, poor layout.

Very reminiscent or the GT series, Forza 2 brings a level or refinement to racing with the 360 that was previously unheard of. The tuning adjustments are interesting and novel and the game challenging. My only complaints for the game are a lack of variety (for instance no rally courses) and user controllability (If a car of mine doesn't fit into their classes well I'm SOL, there is no way to specify a real race if you don't fit in or chose opponent cars for the challenge of it, finally there is the manual: The game gives no useful information on how use the many tuning adjustments beyond trial and error. Although it has some innovation it seems to intentionally hold back features that would have been a easy improvement for no obvious reason beyond saving something for the next sequel.

  • Two-Lane Blacktop

Forza Motorsport 2 is a the only simulation-based Racing title on the Xbox. While it does have it's share of flaws, the game is very ambitious. While it may not be the most exciting racing title, maybe arcade racing has more glitz and glamor, Forza is an earnest attempt at grass roots racing. There are many types of vehicles to choose from and unlike competitor Gran Turismo, the customization is more similar to a Need for Speed game. With that kind of customization, the possibilities of making a completely unique car is simple. Engine swaps have to be one of the most interesting aspects of car building. And of course, there is the multiplayer. If you enjoy dirty, nose-grinding races, strap in for Forza Motorsport.

  • Fun, for awhile

This game is a lot of fun right off the bat. It's pretty easy to get into even if you don't know the first thing about cars. For the more experienced players, you can fine tune your car to allow for more traction, better handling, etc. The big problem with this game though is the repetitive game play. You will race the same track time and time again although it may be slightly modified to make you believe you are playing a new track. If you are going for the achievements, after awhile you will just end up hiring a driver to play through the more boring races. This game is a good game for around 20 hours, but it gets boring quick after that.
