Perfect guidebook for the beginner
Stan Tekiela has written many books about Wisconsin wildlife in this guidebook form. In addition to this one, I have the ones discussing Wisconsin trees, Wisconsin wildflowers, and Wisconsin mammals. They all follow a similar easy-to-read format, give more than enough info for beginners, but not so much that it's overwhelming for the reader. It's compact size, durable cover, and excellent color photographs of each bird found in Wisconsin (even those that simply migrate through) are definite pluses. I bought it to identify the birds around my home, and I have learned lots about my feathered neighbors including owls, ducks, hummers, and cranes. The book is divided first by the main color of the bird which makes identification faster. As does the fact that the book does not include all ... If you are thinking about buying it for an adult or child from age ~9 on up that has an interest in birds, this is the definitely the one you want. If your wallet allows, be sure to buy the companion CD as well. It offers labeled samples of each of the sound-producing birds in the book, and the majority of the samples were recorded in the wild.

Wisconsin bird book and CD
I have had the book for years and really like to use for quick identification of a bird, but with the CD it even better. Have heard songs and vocalization but had no idea what I was hearing. This is a great book and CD for bird lovers!
