    Cost-effective SOHO Cable Modem/Router

This ARRIS Wi-Fi Router seems to be a good Motorola product. I had a year's experience with it's(ComCast-provided) big brother ARRIS TG1682G, and decided to purchase the SBG6580 to save the $10/month rental fee. The SBG6580 is a well-thought-out, easy-to-use network tool, and I had it hooked up to my home system in about 10 minutes out of the box. After a short phone call to Comcast/Xfinity, where they connect it to their servers, I was surfing the web at 50+ Mbps via the ethernet port, and 35 Mbps via Wi-Fi radio. This router has very good help screens to aid the user in setting up it's many variable features. The router works well with our Magic Jack phone system, too. But is doesn't show the names of connected devices like the TG1682G does, only active channels and signal levels of ...

    Cheap but not great speed

I had my Optimum Modem and Router plugged in right before I hooked this modem/router in and check the speed and was up to 40mb/s for download. After I hooked this Motorola modem/router it only went up to 20mb/s for DL speed with an average of 13mb/s. I ran a battery of test, meaning I perform the speed test 3 times with each modem/router and calculated the average speed. I´m truly disappointed as I thought the priced difference (over 200USD) was due to brand and newer models and not performance. I can still steam videos but sometimes I have to leave them loading before watching which never happened before.

  • Motorola Surfboard Modem

I purchased this used. It didn't come with instructions. But I Google.com. And got instructions on how to hook it up. The Quality the Streaming of Movies is way better than that Modem I was paying $15.00 a month for. I wish I had did this last year when I first got cable and Internet service I would have saved myself $210.00 just on that modem. Also I tried to get some help on reprogramming the box I called Motorola and the rep wanted $35.00 for a one year protection. My Question was simple. But that OK I figured it out on my own. Also the Seller was very helpful. By sending emails to me on how to reset the box. I hope this will help you in your decision on buying a modem. This brand is super fast works perfect. Good luck. Ps you can't go wrong buying this item on ebay. Instead of ...

  • SBG6580

Works well, especially with Ethernet, but go to modem website(Arris) and run quick setup and be sure to set at 5ghz for network band if your provider has it. That will double your mbps rate on WiFi. Otherwise you will run at 2.5 and that’s slow.

  • Cheap price and good value

I bought this modem so I can stop giving Comcast $120 a year to "lease" their modem. This modem was at a fantastic price, and it arrived very FAST. I called Comcast tech support 24 hours later to activate it onto my account. It seem like it would've been a quick and simple process since you're only giving them the serial number and mac ID on the modem. However, the rep I spoke to (who was not American) took around 30-35 minutes to get it activated properly. Anyway, the modem itself is easier to look at than Comcast's huge modem. This Arris model is small and easier to hide away. In my living room where the modem is stored, the wi-fi is pretty solid and strong. However, I can notice a very very small speed difference from the Comcast modem. Fortunately, the difference is small enough that ...
