    I have built circuits using the LM317 before. This is extremely compact and frankly for the price it is not worth the hassle of buying components and making a regulator myself. For a basic voltage regulator it works very well. Heat sink of limited size so possibly something to keep an eye on depending on intended application etc? Very impressed and would buy again.
