    Nifty-Fifties Sci-Fi Flic

This sci-fi flic is priceless! For its time, the science was valid. Now we know that EVERYTHING in and on the Earth moves ALL the TIME, so even a LARGE CRACK would just seal itself. We also now know moons aren't formed like that. The film, itself, is truly nifty. Well acted with a memorable soundtrack, it's well-edited, well directed, and the special effects are reasonable and well done for the year it was filmed.

    Interesting concept

Today this might be a great time for a remake. Story line is good and acting is not overboard. Bu the movie seemed too long and ended abruptly. How many survived and what did the world look like afterwards?

  • SciFi from the Golden Age that is worth watching again and again.

I remember quite well seeing this movie for the first time on The 4 O'Clock Movie on WXYZ in Detroit. It is very unique in it's story - a group of scientists are trying to solve the world's energy needs. One comes up with an idea reaching the Earth's Magma as a possible solution. Remember, this British film was made during the height of the Cold War. The producers came up with a very different angle of keeping your interest by having the atomic missle fired INTO THE GROUND in reaching that goal. No other film I can think of did this in the storyline and it still holds up today concerning it's originality along with the other special effects. Highly recommended.

  • Scientifically suspect but a fun B-movie nonetheless

I remember watching this several times when it first came out back in the 1960's. While the science is out of date it is still fun to suspense your disbelief and go with the flow.
