I wanted to get my toddler a camera since he became familiar with my DSLR. I didn't want some garbage kid camera but I also didn't want to spend a few hundred dollars on a toddler. I originally bought a $60 Splash 2. It was just junk. Even my toddler could tell that the camera quality wasn't very good. I did a lot of research and found this used Sony Cybershot for about $50. It has a huge LCD. It's compact and very easy for a toddler to handle. It also has an easy mode built in. That made the touch screen very simple for my child to navigate. The device is super simple to power on by sliding the lens cover down. The image quality is phenomenal for the price. Sony isn't exactly a slouch in imaging. It has a rechargeable lithium battery where almost every single modern low cost device takes ... I wanted to get my toddler a camera since he became familiar with my DSLR. It has a rechargeable lithium battery where almost every single modern low cost device takes AA or AAA batteries. Those last about 40 to 60 shots. I've charged the Sony once in two weeks. This camera even came with a media cradle to sync with my PC or even plug into my smart phone (with the addition of an OTG cable). No additional software was needed. Overall I am so very pleased with the quality of this device for the price that I paid. I seriously don't think I could have done too much better.

Bought this for a really good price, and the camera performs well. It has a lot of features, which can be daunting to learn about. But! Most of these features are actually part of the auto mode. This camera truly embodies the point-and-shoot category because that's all you need to do. The camera predicts everything, such as the exposure, scene mode, ISO and other settings (it's not always right, but pretty darn accurate most of the time). No need to fiddle with the controls (partly because this camera uses a resistive touch screen for controls)! It's also packed with a 3D shooting mode, which is a neat feature but not so much a must-have feature. The camera has a humongous 3.5 inch LCD display, which needs a screen protector for scratches and smudges. Plus, the chassis is so thin it ... Bought this for a really good price, and the camera performs well. It has a lot of features, which can be daunting to learn about. But! Most of these features are actually part of the auto mode. But for 4X6 prints, I don't think I mind. Highly recommended for those looking for a small, stylish, thin, and feature packed camera. It's fast, it takes great (but soft) pictures, and it's easy to use (considering there are two "smart" auto modes). All you need to do is to point and shoot!

Sony TX9 vs. TX7
Having owned and reviewed Sony's previous TX1 and TX7 models, I was looking forward to the TX9. I have a mixed review, especially when the TX7 can be had at very good prices. First, forget the "3D" features, it's a gimmick, although I don't have a Sony 3D TV to use for playback... don't think it would be worth it if I did. Cosmetically, the TX7 and TX9 are physically identical shells, the TX9 has a satin finish front, and a gloss back, the TX7 has a glossy front and a satin back. Basically who cares, but the satin shows fewer fingerprints, I'd like ALL satin, thanks! The huge 3.5" touch screen again provides most of the access to the camera functions beyond zooming, taking a photo, and playing it back. Some menu items have been added: There's a new "superior auto adjustment" mode, improving on the "intelligent auto adjustment" mode for shooting snaps. This means the camera often shoots a series of shots and blends them together to get a "superior" end result - this is good and bad, as it takes longer to take a picture/process, but you get more usable shots when the conditions are bad. There's that "3D" mode... Then you have the background defocus mode, which is supposed to provide results that look more like you used a DSLR with a nice $$ lens and shallow Depth of Focus - meaning only your subject is IN focus, while any background is OUT of focus, thus "soft", and emphasizing your subject. This mode works OK, and if you're patient, it can get decent results, but you need to have your subject fairly close to the camera to get best results... it isn't entirely a gimmick, but don't buy the camera thinking it's going to match an expensive SLR, it won't. The TX9 gets an upgraded sensor, 12.2 megapixel instead of the 10.2 of the TX7, and this has pluses and minuses. It's still an EXMOR "R" backlit sensor, meaning it handles low light better, when coupled with the advanced shooting/processing modes means you get better pictures in low light. If you are really picky and like to zoom in on details in your photos, you'll find the new sensor improves fine details and with processing, you get a smoother, less noisy and more detailed still picture than the TX7, but we're talking about a small improvement in practical terms. Do the TX9 pictures look better than ones shot side by side with a TX7? MAYBE, just a little... but the TX7 is no slouch. Now the "dark side" (literally) of a higher pixel density sensor - the TX9 loses about a stop of sensitivity in VIDEO mode (darker image) and is noisier (blue chroma noise in particular in really low light conditions) than the TX7. This is the result of the smaller pixels being less able to work with limited light - on the still side of the camera, the added processing capabilities of the TX9 compensate for this, but it's harder to do with video, and it shows. Is the TX9 a nice little pocket camera... yep, it is... does it take good still shots... yep it does... shoot good full 1080 HD video under most conditions... yep, that too, with the caution that in low light you may not find it as good as its predecessor, if that's an important consideration. The added "superior" features make for a camera that helps you get good shots under whatever conditions you're shooting in, so if stills are your primary use, the additional capabilities might make it worth the purchase over the TX7.

Size is Perfect
Touch Screen icons are NOT in same location as earlier models. Uses CMOS sensor & is perfect size (w/slide cover) to carry in front pants pocket ... all day. 8x10 generally max size; movies @ 1080i; 3.5" screen. It's a good buy.

Simply Amazaing!
It's an amazing camera, with tons of features to deal with future needs. The 3D feature is mesmerizing. I've never used a digital camera with such simple and easy to follow functionality. the touch screen is fun. Close up photography gives life to the objects and show so much of details. Well done Sony!
