Put Down The Duckie after the opening song
We saw the preview for this dvd on another Sesame Street dvd. I remembered the Put Down the Duckie song from our kids' young years, so we jumped on this dvd based on the title song. We thought we were in for a treat after Gladys Knight and her Pips started off with a swinging Can You Tell Me How to Get to Sesame Street, but as they disappeared off camera to the tune, the dvd took a wrong turn. I am not sure what the folks at Sesame Street were thinking, but this is one boring dvd. It appears that this was cobbled together as part of a PBS fund raiser, and it must have been in the day when conservatives did not endorse Sesame Street, or so it would seem, as one after another famous liberal celeb flashed across the screen. In the first 10 minutes we were graced with Phil Donahue, Martina ... We saw the preview for this dvd on another Sesame Street dvd. In the first 10 minutes we were graced with Phil Donahue, Martina Navratilova, Barbera WahWah, and Ralph Nader(whose personality had obviously been recalled) Our very lively, Sesame Street loving 18 month grandson sat through Gladys happily, but Phil Donahue's sequence lost him as much of the rest of the dvd did. He loves elephants, so Snuffie was welcomed with much arm raising(in lieu of a trunk) and trumpeting, but for the most part it was a reminder of how much Sesame Street has changed from abstract esoterica to, for the most part, characterization with real people, and real situations even if they include make believe puppets. Things we liked: Gladys Knight, Put Down the Duckie(the grandson especially hip to Wynton Marsalis!) and although it was cacophonous, the grandson loved the pseodo-opera conducted by Seiji Ozawa. Things we did not like: Phil Donahue sequence, Luis and Maria museum sequence, the interminalbe restaurant sequence, Bob's song about somebody's. Patti Labelle deserves special mention. She sang a great bluesy torch song, but who was it aimed at? The title leads one to believe it is a rocking little dvd,especially the "All Star Musical Special" subtitle, but in reality there are a couple of snazzy tunes sandwiched between a lot of filler.

Sesame Street's "Put Down the Ducky"
I bought this DVD because, having bought (and used until 'dead') the original release on video cassette 10 years ago, I felt that the timeless quality of performances by many well-known actors and singers was worth purchasing for my children and their children in their turn. Exactly what I wanted
I had been looking for this particular video ever since my 2 year old started saying ducky. It has so many silly little songs sung by so many of the greats! Gladis knight and the Pips start the show off and it just gets better from there. I love that my child is learning songs from some of the best singers/writers in the world (ie.. James Taylor, Pati LaBelle, ect....ect...)and doesn't think mom is a wierdo for dancing along :o} I would wholeheartedly recomend this video to anyone who wants to join in the fun with their little ones.I had been looking for this particular video ever since my 2 year old started saying ducky. This dvd teachs all about friendship and the value of the things that mean the most to all of us. A very good dvd for all people not just young childern. I watch with my kids and I still learn
