About this product

Product Information

This impossibly bad zombie/cannibal movie could only have been filmed by Bruno Mattei, the laughably inept director of films like SS EXTERMINATION LOVE CAMP and RATS: NIGHT OF TERROR. The plot centers around a New Guinea chemical accident that attracts the attention of a SWAT team and a buxom reporter (Newton). When the SWAT team finally penetrates the chemical cloud, they find a race of flesh eating zombies hungry for fresh human food. Full of gratuitous nudity, stock footage of natives, animals, rotting corpses, and inane dialogue, HELL OF THE LIVING DEAD is a hilarious attempt at recreating the magic of the films that inspired it (DAWN OF THE DEAD, ZOMBIE, ZOMBIE HOLOCAUST).

  • Dusk of the Dead

This film if taken for what it is warts and all but stripped down to the actual story elements fits right in with the Romero series to the extent it offers a plausible genesis for the outbreak. It is poorly budgeted and dubbed but comes across as a decent actioner and premise which only grows with multiple viewings. The soundtrack is stolen directly off Dawn of the Dead with similar military squads swapped in for swat officers and some journalists thrown in for added fodder. If anything this film really only tends to drag slightly at the beginning and certainly at the end of the film when with minimal exposition the reporter unravels the entire plot in a too neat/too gross summary before the obligatory shock ending. The gore is high in spots, mainly to cover up the minor plot holes ...

  • Hell of the living dead

I started watching this movie with the lowest of expectations. Before my purchase i had read the previous reviews on "Hell of the living dead" and was alittle dissappointed with what i was reading. with that said, i purchased this movie regardless. after watching i realized that u cant base a purchase on the opinion of others! This movie went well beyond what i thought it would be and am more than gratefull for my decision to purchase. With the movie style of a Romero film and the poorly dubbed voice over it was like watching Dawn of the dead for the first time! Not only because they share the same soundtrack but the eerily dry humor and the consistant shamble of the zombies themselves. The horror and fear of chemical warfare matched with the possability of devient military tactics and ...

  • total crap, but more fun than a romero film

absolutely essential. the title of the review is written with the utmost respect to romero. this is one of the most over the top & gory zombie films you will ever see. of course there's always "burial ground", another excellent piece of crap. if you're a fan of that one you owe it to yourself to see this one. if you can find the "hell of the living dead" with "rats" two-fer you should get it. bad acting, even worse dubbing, ludicrous dialogue, stock footage that doesn't make a bit of sense, nuclear waste, killer kids, & loads of gore. certainly made to capitalize on the zombie fad of the time. essential for the bad movie night. bring a case of pabst blue ribbon so everybody can really enjoy themselves. again this is essential to bad movie fans, zombie gore geeks & just schlock ...

  • Okay for a zombie movie I’ve seen better

It was okay. I like zombie movies but this was pretty bad. They were Italian actors dubbed in English . I’m glad I watched it it was amusing but I wouldn’t watch again

  • Pretty cool

Meh, some hilarious dubbing in this film, pretty cool effects, but one thing i hate is the stupid use of stock footage, that really isn't necessary at all, the dawn of the dead ripoff costumes are hilarious, even the soundtrack is taken from Dawn of the Dead (haha!) so in closing, this is a pretty cool zombie flick that will please some fans, some may be taken back by the stock footage, and strange zombie effects, but the gore is pretty good!
