About this product

Product Information

Return to the underwater city of Rapture in this anticipated sequel to 2007's critically acclaimed first-person shooter. Set approximately ten years after the events in the original, BioShock 2 casts you in the surprising role of a "Big Daddy," the prototype for the lumbering giants encountered in the first game. Your nemesis is, fittingly enough, a leader of the "Big Sisters," who plans on returning Rapture to its former glory. The Big Sisters are forming a new army of minions by snatching unsuspecting girls from the surface. Your goal is to put an end to the sinister scheme. Unlike the Big Daddies from BioShock 2's predecessor, you are more agile and have the ability to use plasmids to augment your deadly drill and rivet gun.

Thanks to the Big Daddy's distinctive diving suit, you can also explore the briny depths outside of Rapture, but you won't necessarily be alone. Radio communication from Dr. Tennenbaum will keep you apprised of key developments, while Little Sisters can either be harvested for their powers or "adopted." The latter option has them tagging along to warn you of impending dangers or alert you to potential sources for more plasmids. BioShock 2 also features a multiplayer component developed by Digital Extremes. Multiplayer games take place prior to Rapture's fall, offering a new take on a familiar setting. Experience points earned during multiplayer combat can be used to unlock new weapons, plasmids, and gene tonics to customize characters.

Activation process made me want to throw my computer out the window. Going to eat the cost and give up.

Still haven't been able to activate this game. There are supposedly several work-arounds, but I am being thwarted at each one. There is some stupid third party involved in the activation process. Good Lord, why? Maybe it went smoothly years ago when this was released, but it doesn't now.

  • Fun game, familar but fun environs, interesting story

I liked the realistic depiction about what would happen if a place without law or God was actually built. The game is kind of gory, which can be a bonus or negative. The settings although familiar and lost some of it's sheen is still interesting. The story is interesting, and allowed the setting of rapture to end. Being a christian the religious brainwashing was offensive, but they didn't hold any punches from humanistic views of the world as well so they seemed equally biased, I can at least respect that(I don't claim to have any insight to the beliefs and views of the people and the company that made Bioshock 2). Not as challenging as first person shooters go, and the all too common fight scenes can become stale. Weapon selection was fun and varied, same as the dual-wielding weapons and ...

  • another good game

Liked the original, this one has similar game play and a good story line. Graphics are visually stunning. Although the plasmids are the same, the non-elemental ones give better choices because of upgraded strenths. Cyclone allows double dipping by infusing the cyclone trap with any other plasmid. Swarm 3 is much more powerful than in the original, etc. Don't like that the keys are defaulted different from the original.

  • Great game, must buy! 9/10

Welcome back to the world of rapture. The setting: Bioshock 2 like bioshock takes place in the underworld city of rapture. In bio 2 you play as a big daddy, trying to find your lost little sister. Improvements: Bioshock 2 has many new features to offer over its predecessor. You can now wield a plasmid and weapon at the same time. Big daddy battles and Big sister battles. Multiplayer. New hacking system. melee attack. Improved plasmids. Things that stayed the same: Graphics. Sound. Overall game play. The use of the unreal 3 engine. Cons: Nothing worth noting. To sum it up: Bio 2 is basically an improved bio 1, you could almost think of it as an expansion pack. Graphics 9/10 Sound 9/10 Game play 9/10 Over all 9/10 Games that are still worth playing in 2010: Borderlands Mass effect ...

  • For the lover of FPS's and horror, this is a must-have!

I hate spoilers, so this is certainly not one. The graphics, music, and imagery are spectacular. It's like being a part of a Tim Burton movie, only with the added element of extreme gore and a chilling amount of playful terror. I am only a few hours in to the game, but I am pleasantly addicted to it. This sequel retained enough of the original BIOSHOCK (such as plasmids, health-packs, splicers, the camera, etc.) to be familiar, but the superior imagery, new hacking methods, and new weapons easily make this game all it's own. From what I can tell, you do not play the same character as in the original game, and you venture to enough new places in Rapture for the scenery to only seem vaguely familiar. If you have never played the first BIOSHOCK, go buy it! It's unique style and GREAT ...
