RM-AV3100 great for Sony equipment
I recently put together a nice older Sony ES 5.1 home entertainment system. Unfortunately the remotes for every single piece of equipment were missing. This remote worked great out of the box with only one misprogrammed button for my much more modern Panasonic plasma TV. Great value for the price. It's not as good as the Marantz RC9500 I use on my other system but a very good bargain for older Sony equipment.I recently put together a nice older Sony ES 5.1 home entertainment system. Excellent functonality of the SONY RM-AV3100
Likes: Fully teachable, customizable. Can learn any command; even from those "difficult" components that other Universal remotes cannot control. Can teach it System sequence functions; can be helpful to have the remote turn on several components and switch them to the correct function/input setting. User definable macros allow a sequence of key strokes to be executed using a single button. Sony support website has downloads of manuals (should you ever misplace yours). Sony Website also has key code tools that let you customize a printable summary sheet for your components. Dislikes: System1 and System3 buttons are factory defined and cannot be changed. With 13 other user-definable systems this is not an issue but it would have been nice to be able to redefine any ... Likes: Fully teachable, customizable. Maybe just a nit on my part. Manual reads a little bit awkward at times but once you get the hang of things it is not too bad to follow. Summary: This remote does what it advertises. It may seem intimidating at first but once you get going, it is quite intuitive. It is very flexible as far as customizing; so, you can make it "yours". It is worth pointing out that the RM_AV3100 is an update to the RM-AV3000; a few quirks of the RM-AV3000 were fixed and a few newer options added. So, if you have the opportunity, try to get the RM-AV3100. Overall, I recommend this remote. However, I would not pay full retail for it. There are deals to be found on this remote. Just check out eBay.

Solves remote issues
This remote runs all my electronics and some appliances. It is easy to use but a bit time consuming to program.The SONY items work from the start. It learns all the other codes pretty easy. I bought this cause we have 5 remotes on the table and its annoying. The only bad thing is its a bit time consuming to program but after that its great. I had to program the Volume and the other DVD functions and the touch screen makes it a little better but still clear the day cause you need to program each function. Great remote and much improved over the other Sony Commander models!
I owned the older AV2100 model, and was looking for something updated. I ended up choosing the AV3100 due to it's smaller size, improved functionality, improved buttons, and usual Sony quality. The screen contrast is much better than the AV2100, and seems to work a bit faster. Programing is a snap, and the learning feature lets you customize each and every button to fully replace your old remotes! Don't worry about the wide size of this remote. I owned a small one-handed Logitech Harmony 880, and prefer the AV3100!I owned the older AV2100 model, and was looking for something updated. I ended up choosing the AV3100 due to it's smaller size, improved functionality, improved buttons, and usual Sony quality. The screen contrast is much better than the AV2100, and seems to work a bit faster.
