Received this movie promptly in very good condition as advertised. Shipped in thin plastic envelope but a piece of bubble protected the disc inside the case, and arrived undamaged. Plays perfectly and a great addition to my collection. Positive buying experience. Am a repeat customer and highly recommend this seller.

Best adaptation of the novel Jane Eyre

Best adaptation of my favorite novel. Jane seems to speak in a whisper at times, which sometimes makes her difficult to understand, but that is true to the character. The actors are spot on, especially during the very emotional scenes. Acted well, filmed well and comes closer to the novel than any adaptation I have seen.

  • It's pretty good

I wish I could say I loved this version of Jane Eyre best - I wanted to, because it's the longest and most complete and the avid purist in me loves that - but I just couldn't buy the chemistry between Clarke's Jane and Dalton's Rochester. In spite of his good looks, I think Dalton did well as Rochester - passionate, dynamic, moody. But his Rochester would never have fallen for Clarke's mousy, uninteresting, stupid-looking Jane. She never effectually breaks out of her schoolgirl reserve and insipidity to let Rochester see the current of intellectualism, faith and purity which should have been there. She doesn't show give us enough to let us feel that she was a personality worth savoring and exploring for Rochester. And that kind of ruined most of it for me. I loved the scene after the ...

  • good acting, bad lighting!

I had very high expectations from this movie since Jane Eyre is perhaps my favorite book of all time. I was not disappointed in the acting--Zelah Clark and Timothy Dalton do a superb job and are fairly true to character--with the nitpicky exception that the book version of mister Rochester has a bit more mirth to balance the darkly passionate side than does the screen version. The downside of this movie was the poor lighting, film, and sound quality, (it is an older movie, but still...) which make it hard to immerse oneself in the story. Also, let's face it, the make-up in the last part of the movie--for Mr. Rochesters missing eye, well it was really bad. You can see his own eye twitching under there--very distracting to what would have been a major high point in the movie. So in all, ...

  • Faithful to original story, superb acting!

This version of "Jane Eyre" is the best version I have seen, and the most faithful to the original story. Timothy Dalton is the perfect Mr. Rochester, indeed, as good as George C. Scott was in the 1970's version! Although Zelah Clarke's personality doesn't come across as passionate as Jane Eyre was purported to be, she gives a pretty good performance. The child who played the young Jane Eyre was perfect for the role! I've seen 3 movie versions of this story, and this is my favorite.

  • The best rendering of Jane Eyre

This is by far the best acted and presented movie of Jane Eyre. The other movies are excellent but this one is super-excellent. Jane, the mousy orphan who is employed by Mr. Rochester to care for his daughter is beautifully played by Zela Clarke. Timothy Dalton excellently plays the moody and handsome Mr. Edward Rochester. This movie most closely follows the narrative of the book.
