About this product

Product Information

Phantasy Star Collection is a compilation of the first three games in Sega's acclaimed sci-fi role-playing series, which first appeared on the Sega Master System in 1988 before establishing itself on the 16-bit Genesis. Each is a direct port from the original, with no specific enhancements in visuals or sound. Players explore futuristic worlds from an overhead view, with party members following single file behind the lead character, as they enter buildings, talk with residents, and journey to new areas.

Battles automatically segue to a third-person view positioned just behind the party members' shoulders as they spread out in a horizontal line. Enemies appear in the distance, atop a blue grid set against a black background to simulate a 3D perspective. Both magic and melee weapons are used in a traditional turn-based fashion against one or more alien creatures at a time. Players can save their progress during each of the three games to battery backup.

Phantasy Star 1 - Hidden gem of a classic RPG

To be honest, I only play the first one on this port, many people have said 2 is very good, but yave not played it yet. This is a review of the first one. This game is extremely good, no matter how many people brag on it, it still seems very underappreciated to me, compared to games like Final Fantasy. This game is for all ages, don't listen to people who say only those from the 80s generation can enjoy it, I'm a 19 year old and I enjoy everything aboit this game. For 1988, the graphics are amazing, they are very colorful and clear sprites, and the music is very catchy, never got tired of hearing any themes. This game is revolutionary in it's time, most RPG's during that time feature a "save the princess" plot, this one features a very different story. Also it features one of the first ...

  • Three Classics in One

The Phantasy Star series is a belove SEGA staple and a precursor in many ways to the modern Final Fantasy series. These old school RPG's encompass the first 3 games of the series (Phantasy Star IV is not included unfortunately)and is a great game for those wanting to see the roots of the series or if you want a huge burst of nostalgia. The games are all intact with the original music and gameplay mechanics. The games are considered a bit slow by today's standards and require quite a bit of grinding (leveling up before entering dungeons) but overall they are very well balanced. The dungeons can be frustrating mainly due to designs...the original Phantasy Star 1 has 3-D Dungeons that are explored in First Person mode, though the rest of the game is in overhead view. Phantasy Star II ...

  • Awesome Series I highly reccomend for RPG lovers.

Originally I started out with Phantasy Star 4 on the Sega Genesis. I liked it so much that when they came out with the sega genesis collection on the playsation 2 I got it because it included Phantasy star 2 and 3. I loved how the story interconnects between one Phantasy Star game and the next. The only one I was unable to play was the original Phantasy Star but with this collection I was finally able to play it. I can say with assurance that the Phantasy Star series is one of the best rpg series i've played for the simple reason that you will notice the changes from one game to the next. For example in Phantasy Star 1 you start out on the planet Palma. In Phantasy Star 2 you destroy the planet Palma, and then in Phantasy Star 4 you return to the rubble of the planet to fight an old ...

  • Great series, Great port. Just don't play Phantasy Star 1 with the sound on

I had picked up this game because I had played the originals a long time ago and fell in love with them. To start off with, Phantasy Star 4 seems to be the fan favorite in the series yet they dropped it from the US release of this game and that puzzles me. The games however look and play great, even on a scaled down screen. The only issue I had with these games is that they did not do a very good job with the music. The ports have a tinny sound to them, for 2 and 3 it is not too noticeable but for Phantasy Star 1 it makes it almost impossible to play with the volume on without wanting to tear your ears off. I would recommend this port to a friend for sure.

  • Good Advance

A nice game. It was an awesome pick. I really enjoyed it.
