Done like a stage play, this film was a study in regrets of choices made, in hindsight, & portrays a most definite, "be careful what you wish for" tragedy. The final scenes made me weep, for Charles Holroyd. As usual, Colin Firth doesn't disappoint, with his acting skills. Easy to see...& hear...that he is a classically trained actor, as well as a master of accents & dialects, as he had the Cockney brogue down pat. You've only to turn a careful ear toward him, think, "Eliza Doolittle," & study his pronunciation of certain words: the dropping of t's & h's, e.g., & a few other bits, of his "oddspeak," & coupled with the dialogue of the other players, you can figure out what he is saying. The actors were fine, but I did not care for the adaptation at all. Very boring for me and I love most BBC movies. I was very disappointed. This DVD is two-sided and had 3 extra short movies on the back. I didn't care for them either as they were mostly shot in very dark (greenish/black) background which I don't care for.
