About this product

Product Information

PETE ROSE HOLDS MORE MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL RECORDS THAN ANY OTHER PLAYER IN HISTORY. He stands alone as baseball's hit king having shattered the previously "unbreakable" record held by Ty Cobb. He is a blue-collar hero with the kind of old-fashioned work ethic that turned great talent into legendary accomplishments. Pete Rose is also a lifelong gambler and a sufferer of oppositional defiant disorder. For the past 13 years, he has been banned from baseball and barred from his rightful place in the Hall of Fame-- accused of violating MLB's one taboo. Rule 21 states that no one associated with baseball shall ever gamble on the game. The punishment is no less than a permanent barring from baseball and exclusion from the Hall of Fame. Pete Rose has lived in the shadow of his exile. He has denied betting on the game that he loves. He has been shunned by MLB, investigated by the IRS, and served time for tax charges in the U.S. Penitentiary in Marion, Illinois. But he's coming back. Pete Rose has never been forgotten by the fans who loved him throughout his 24-year career. The men he played with have stood by him. In this, his first book since his very public fall from grace, Pete Rose speaks with great candor about all the outstanding questions that have kept him firmly in the public eye. He discloses what life was like behind bars, discusses the turbulent years of his exile, and gives a vivid picture of his early life and baseball career. He also confronts his demons, tackling the ugly truths about his gambling and his behavior. MY PRISON WITHOUT BARS is Pete Rose's full accounting of his life. No one thinks he's perfect. He has made mistakes-- big ones. And he is finally ready to admit them.

    Great Buy

Initially saw the book at a Pete Rose meet and greet for $80... Still a fan for what Rose did for the game of baseball. Very good read and even includes some pictures through his life in the book. Strongly recommend the book for any fan of who Pete Rose was especially at a price like this.

  • "MY PRISON WITHOUT BARS"

I mostly purchased this book because I have been a long-time fan of Pete Rose and own a large collection of Pete Rose memorabilia, including cards from various years, stickers, photos and other items. I figured that this book should be a part of my collection. I feel bad for Pete Rose, because even though he may have made a huge mistake by betting on his own team, he earned his stats without a doubt. He belongs in the Hall of Fame and anyone can say that his error should keep him out, but I believe his winnings should put him in. He is a major baseball in the History of the sport. He had to work hard to achieve what he accomplished and I feel that he should not be denied. People make mistakes, but no one wants to give him a new start. I believe in forgive and forget. Move on and let ...

  • Pete Rose wants to be in HOF

Ok,he first lies outright to the baseball commissioner about his betting on baseball,it takes all these years for him to tell the truth about his involvement and he expects people to forgive him.Does he deserve to be in the HOF?No!!!!There are a lot of players in the HOF who are not by any means angels-racist Ty Cobb comes to mind, however,he broke one of baseball's strictest rules, and first lied about it. One thing about Barry Bonds, sure he's despicable, sure he lied about steroid abuse,however,baseball-like no other sport, has always been lax-until recently-about it's steroid policy mainly because of it's not wanting to anger the player's union. Many of the steroids Barry have been taking were actually legal and drug tests were few and fae between before the current uproar over this. Is ...

  • Charlie Hustle uncovered

This book was about so much more than just betting on baseball. So he bet on baseball.....big deal! The commissioner had it in for him. At least he never bet against his team! What about guys taking steroids and still being allowed to play ..... now thats a big deal! Pete is an honest guy he just grew up betting on the horses legally like his dad did. Great insight on how he grew up and why he was such a competitor. The problems he faced in everyday life. Even though he was a huge star he was a regular guy. Great reading.

  • ROSE IN THE HALL

He bet on baseball and lied about it. Sure that's unforgivable and he shouldn't be in the hall of fame...AS A BASEBALL MANAGER. But Pete Rose was a great baseball player...CHARLIE HUSTLE. I am a Phillie fan and I can tell you that we would have never made it to the World Series without him. Pete Rose needs to be judge on his playing career and not his managing career. He got a bum rap and deserves to be in the Hall of Fame!
