Avalon 5.1 SACD
By far, one of the best multi-channel sounding recordings I've heard. To bad this is out of print, and is going for top dollar. If you're a fan of this recording, you won't be disappointed in the sound.

Good 5.1, great recording
Bob Clearmountain recorded an audiophile masterpiece in 1981 and this was a great starting point for him to remix this into 5.1 in 2003. The surround channels were utilized expertly with isolated keys and effects, though I could do without the drums there. In my opinion, he missed on the use of the center channel as it included too many instruments mixed in with the vocal. I love Steven Wilson's center channel isolated lead vocal, but here if you wish more vocal, it also comes with snare drum and others. “Avalon” SACD is a great mix but it’s not earth shattering. The surround sound field is used to great effect but there are other surround mixes that are better IMO. Anything from Porcupine Tree in 5.1 as well as ELP “Brain Salad Surgery” and Steely Dans “Gaucho” are better mixes. I do like “More than this” it’s a well crafted tune but I can’t pay such an unrealistic price for a SACD that has only one song on it that I like. Even if I did like every song on it I still wouldn’t pay over $130 for it. I understand it’s an out of print collectors item but paying 5 times its original price is stupid. I can tell you that after buying and listening to it; it is the best sounding surround sound SACD EVER made in the pop/rock category. It surpasses Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon". It destroys the great Allman Brothers releases on SACD.
