Easy to run and work on great tains
Great trains. I have been using these old Blue Box Athearns for decades. Easy to work on and very easy as well to upgrade to make them a little more modern. Strong engines I believe use them to pull nice amounts of trains for hours at a time and no problems. Very easy to work on can do almost anything on them with a small pair of pliers and small screwdriver. They are not as detailed as some of the others but they look good enough for me. Like I said very easy to upgrade to DCC and add some led lighting for just a few bucks. Lots of room also to add speaker as well. Some small strips of black tape on the sides where frame and shell touch makes them a little less noisier. They are able to pull almost as much or more sometimes of my more expensive MTH, and Atlas trains.Great trains. I have been using these old Blue Box Athearns for decades. Athearn Blue Box is always a good investment!
So far, I've only ran it on a test track. I have not yet had the time to run a full on operating session.I was going to have an operating session yesterday with it, but just didn't get the time, perhaps later today? However, this is by far not my first Athearn Blue Box... In my experience ABB is dollar for dollar the most durable/dependable and the most powerful ever made! In fact, I have an old beat down ABB engine in my fleet that out performed a nearly new more expensive Atlas! Athearn Blue Box is always a good investment! IDK if I can add one later, but as I have not yet had a chance to have an operating session, I have not had the opportunity to take a pic of it in action.So far, I've only ran it on a test track.
