    Nice product

Had it about a week now. Works very nice ....but difficult to figure out lots of guess work involved. Symbols at bottom of the screen for navigation are difficult if at all possible to read. Recording is a great feature but .....there is a mode (don't know how I got there or how I got out) where you have small screen in corner, video plays 5 minutes or so, freezes up. Then you mash buttons including power button till you eventually get out. Somehow eventually got out of that mode and now it's playing and recording normally. TV guide, depending on the channel goes foreword 12 hours to 2 days. Could be I just haven't figured out how to advance it further yet! Still all in all for 33 bucks I'm pleased with it. Got a great picture 45 channels, 18 of which are useful, Roku with Sling TV and ...

  • Top critical review

Good tuner, not so good recorder.

It does ATSC OTA very well. I am happy with the overall features, except its ability to record. The channels I have recorded look fine when viewing live, but on playback there are noticable and annoying skips. There does not appear to be newer firmware. I have V3. One thing I have not tried, is recording a sub-channel (.2, .3, etc). The are typically lower resolution (480, 720). Not sure what that will prove, as the shows I want to record are on the primary (.1) channel. So, other than that, it's decent. Have not tried playing music of the USB drive, which BTW, is where shows are recorded to. The unit itself has no memory for recording. On last thing. It has several built in games. Amusing, but not very fun via a remote as the controller.

  • Has USB input

I purchased the AT-163 so I could play movies with the USB input. It works good for that. Using it for a converter it works good also. However, using it as a converter, it has annoying characteristics. First you can't delete channels you don't want i.e. shopping channels. When changing channels the channel display stays on a full 10 seconds. It shows in the middle of the screen with a signal strength meter and upcoming programs. You can't select a channel that hasn't been programmed into memory. (Just to see if anything is there). You can't see the remote control information unless you have a light when the room is dark. The operation manual has very little information. Basically how to hook it up. In features it shows "antenna power" since I use an amplified antenna I would like to know ...

  • Cool Little Off Air DVR

This is a cool little DVR for broadcast TV in your area. The tuner is pretty sensitive and picked up stations from my own town and one about 50 miles away. This is driven mostly by the antenna but the one I'm using is the size of a book and indoors so it works pretty well. All the stuff I read about these said add a flash drive so that you have something to record to. -- I suspected a usb hard drive world work and it does. I hooked up a WD 1TB hard drive and it works just fine. I chose this drive because it was cheap. With 1TB of space I could have many many hours of recorded video stored. -- The command structure of this system takes a little getting used to as there are a ton of buttons on the remote and not all commands are straight forward. With a little work the on screen ...

  • Over-the-air converter and recorder

Picks up stations better than my TV's tuner. Recording feature is nice (You provide USB stick or USB hard drive). Programming recordings is not as easy as a TIVO. Front display doesn't show channel info, but instead, shows a channel "index". If you're watching the fifth channel it found in the setup scan, it will show C005 instead of the actual channel number like 19-2 or whatever. On-screen, it does show the actual channel info like 19-2 for example. I couldn't find a way to manually add a channel to the list it makes when it scans channels, so if you have an antenna rotator, you will only get the channels that show up when the antenna is pointing wherever it was when you did the scan. Overall, for the price, quite a good value.
