I have bought a ton of books off eBay and never written a review but this seller offered a very competitive price for a product in excellent condition and shipped immediately in nice packaging without adding random ads inside. If I could give 10 stars I would. Very pleased.

A new factory sealed CD was purchased on 11-19, shipped on 11-20, and delivered by USPS Ground Advantage on 11-25. Item received was as described in the listing and was well packed by being placed inside a padded envelope which was then placed inside a second padded envelope. CD looked as if just came from the factory. The receipt of CD as described, the care and effort in packing the CD, and fast shipping and delivery made for an excellent purchasing experience thanks to holiday688.

  • Lovecraft Would Be Proud...

I have been a hardcore fan of H.P. Lovecraft for half my life now... I've read everything I have been able to get my hands on (including recently, one story I hadn't even heard of which was in a compilation a friend gave me)... And now, after watching this The Call of Cthulhu DVD, I've seen every movie made based accurately on his work and several which were indirectly or loosely based on it... I have to say that up to this point, Re-Animator was probably my favorite Lovecraft film adaption, even if it was far from accurate... But The Call of Cthulhu blows it away in every sense... It ranks highest of all Lovecraft films in adherence to story and themes, not to mention characters and the rest... As an indie-film script writer myself, I have often fantasized about writing (and maybe ...

  • A great film of an "unfilmable" story!

I've only recently come to the "Cthulu" universe and this is one of my first experiences after reading the original short story. Supposedly this story, for many years, has been considered unfilmable. But this production dispels that notion handily. Filmed in black and white using almost nothing but older special effects techniques (e.g. physical models, forced perspective, etc.), the creators succeed in capturing the look and feel of the earliest cinematic works of science fiction. According to the included extras, the only computer effects used are simple compositing, and even then the basic technique existed in the 1920s, only done with layers of film rather that computers. Many fan films are very amateur looking, but this one is very professionally done. And while it isn't as polished ...

  • A classic tale as it might have been filmed at the time

This is a silent film made in 2007 of the classic Lovecraft tale, the Call of Cthulhu. Using a few modern camera tricks, the film is shot in black and white and using title cards to cover all dialog. The acting is also the more exaggerated style of the silent era, but the film is distinctly played as a serious tale, not a parody. Except for far better quality picture and camera angles than the actual silent era, but the feel is right. The result is excellent viewing. So many horror films try to do horror and fail because of a focus on blood or special effects. This crew creates far better results by keeping a focus on the source material and on telling a story. I was shown this by a friend, and immediately hunted down a copy of my own.

  • Call of Cthulhu (2005) - Best H.P. Lovecraft Adaptation

First of all let me say that every time I see a Lovecraft adaptation my reaction varies anywhere from disappointed at best to utterly nauseated at worst. It drives me crazy when some "DONKEY" gets behind a camera and decides to grace us with his vision or interpretation of an already great story. Particularly if that story is from the father of modern horror- The Great H.P. Lovecraft ! I say get over yourself you pretentious "donkey" ! That being said, I really enjoyed this movie. The whole "silent" thing didn't bother me too much. For a movie that came out in 2005, I liked the fact that the creators of this movie tried to keep it in period. Good job. This movie stayed pretty darn close to real story with some changes due more to budget issues than artistic vision, thank Cthulhu! Story ...

  • fun with a classic

My family loves to watch this movie. Done in an old black and white, it's very entertaining.
